REMINDER - Closure of Right of Way Meeting Tonight
Just a reminder (sorry for the caps, Cap) - the Middletown Town Council meeting is tonight, Monday, June 7th at 7:00 PM at Middletown Town Hall on East Main Road (just down the road from the Job Lot Shopping Center).
Any support by showing up would be appreciated - there really is strength in numbers. Any Middletown residents are strongly urged to attend (I'm a Newporter, Upper Fifth Ward to be precise) and voice their objections to the parking ban on Tuckerman Avenue which will be a de facto closure of TWO public ROW's . This is all as a result of a petition filed by an attorney for a couple of carpetbaggers who bought a piece of the waterfront.
So what, they bought a piece of the rock - hey, enjoy the view, have a good life, now leave us the hell alone, we ain't botherin' ya in the first place.
Hope to see some of ya there - maybe we can hit the Coddington for a short rinse afterwards and a brief war council between us rock-hoppers on future threats to access - keeping them open is a whole lot easier than trying to re-open them once they've been shut down. I might just be drinking sodas, depending on how long a day today is, or I might break down and have ONE bloooberry.
Anyway, please try to show if you can - I'll be more than happy to return the favor with this old carcass anywhere in RI if you'll let me know about it.
Thanks, men -

Crafty - as long as I run this one by the boss (and confirm she is not working tonight) I'll be there.... You need to get in touch with DZ and pull some club strings and representation.
THe biggest problem with these access meetings is that NONE of us hardly show. One major reason why we, as an angling collective, lose our voice on these issues, we don't get our ass out the door when it counts....

DZ , for stuff like this , I think it would be appropriate 9at least we won't complain) to post the sections of your club announcements here on the main page if you like.
I know the news letter is a members benefit but for issues where a lot of public support would be benefiial to the cause , this wedsite is available to publicize such things. Just something to consider in the future.

Gents - I'll see you there tonight...
I cannot underscore how important this is if you desire open access to fish, stroll, bird watch, or birdwatch - this is important to attend, ESPECIALLY if you are a Middletown resident....

More details before the pogey and squid bombs are launched. Foreigners have landed on home turf and they have thrown the first punch.

Chipwood, Although none of us like it, the parking ban in front of the house is now legal because it got the approval of the town council with a 5 to 2 vote. The correct route for rebuttal is to ask the town council to reconsider and present your case in front of them.
The only good news is that there is still SOME parking left. If you take matters into your own hands the only likely scenario is the police will continually get called and the only solution for the town will be to remove ALL parking.
You're much better off focusing your energy into doing it the correct way so we don't lose everything.

What Ed said.
Like I told JohnR before the meeting:
"This one has already flown in under the radar."
Ya know, sometimes I hate it when I'm right .
At least they didn't take all of it away if that's any consolation.

I hear ya on that. I probably won't throw any pogey bombs only because there's no pogeys, but the people who live in those houses will hear it if seen. At least they did'nt take it all away. Like I said before the funny thing about all this is the yuppie who moves in will soon be down at the Saltwater Edge getting his fly gear. How 'bout that one.
