Canal Clean UP???
JUst wondering if many people would be interested in getting some sorta canal clean up going? IT would be fun, we could meet in the morning/afternoon at a spot, spread out and pick up the trash that is everywhere. Then meet up and have a BBQ type thing, then some sorta fishing tourney for the evening. Just an idea, it would be fun and would do some good, that place is a wreck.

Rob,
You know, I've been thinking about that very thing for some time now. I was thinking this.........
If we could get 100 or so people and each take 20 or so poles, we'd do a heck of a job, or at least a good dent.
What I was thinking is something in the fall. If we could get "Sponsors" at the Canal area to provide bags, gloves, trash pickup (dumpster, trash truck etc) help we'd be in good shape. Also, if anyone had a "Connection" with the Army Corp, maybe they could help with access for pickups, use of their "Mule" tractors etc.
I've been thinking, planning is another story.
But, YES, I'd be up for that!!

Im glad there is some intrest in it. It was pretty much just a thought, i didnt really think it thru that much. I would imagine the corp would be willing to pick up the filled bags. It would be cool if a local sanitation company would supply a dumpster for each side of the ditch, it would be good advertising for them. I dont really know where to start when it comes to getting help/supplies form the local businesses. I live in sturbridge, its bout an hour and a half from the canal, i try to make it down every weekend. If anyone interested has a bit of experience as to how to get this thing started it would be appreciated.

As far as getting ahold of the Army Corps, give Canal Control a call.
Tell them the situation.
I'm sure from the access road they'd be happy to have a truck(s) jogging up and down picking up the bags.
As far as bags and gloves, maybe Canal Control again?
Not sure on that one.

Yup I'm in. If the famous Bob Thomas can volunteer so can I. Plus, I'm sure in the 11 plus years I've fished the canal I probably inadvertantly left behind a wrapper or two.
Count me in.

I'd definitely be in. Over the years I've probably taken a truckload out of there anyway.

An organized effort would be the thing to do. I clean up after other people every time I go fishing. Always carry a few S&S bags in my tackle. Darn slobs. Clean and Q with some fishin' too. Does sound like a productive time. Count me in for sure.

Back when the Lepers made their headquarters behind the old Playland arcade, every Sunday we'd clean up the area and leave a trash bag along the fence for the Corps honey truck to pick up on Monday morning. It was appreciated and probably one of the reasons they never broke our chops about "camping" there.
