Huge favor to ask of you guys
Allright, Rhody looks like a go for me. I can bring my own rod and Mindi is getting one lended by one of the nice people here. Spinning would be best for her by the way.
Would anyone mind bringing an extra conventional outfit if it's too much to ask? I have one but it's not a serious one. Cheap reel mounted on a spinning rod. I promise that if I do any damage to it or I get a huge birdsnest, I'll buy you a new spool of line. That's the reason why I ask that you bring an extra. I don't want to put one of your main rods out of commission or try to use it while you want to use it. If it isn't too much trouble, that is.
Thanks,
|

I think that can be arranged. A smoothied Mag Elite with Big Game on a 1089 should do the trick... (Or a Quantum Big Iron 410 - decent reel as #^^^^^^& got his fifty on one - A Calcutta? - no way, hehehehe)

I can lend you mine Choose your poison pen mag525 spooled with 65 # whiplash, magelite 30# magibraid, Calcutta 700s 30# fireline, C3, C4, Pen GS555 Pen GLS 545.
I highly recommend the magelite. Just let me know. It would be an honor if you borrow one of mine. I may part with one for the right price
My offer is sincere here. No need to feel any bad feelings. I just want you to actually experience whatever reel or gear you choose, instead of reading about them.

Patrick , you should use a spinner so you can concentrate on fishing. Save learning on a conventional for sometime when you are alone at the marina. You're going to have a good chance to catch a fish with top people showing you around. Take the equipment worry out and use a reel you are familiar with. Downtime at night with a fluffed up conventional can be murder when people are pulling in fish while you pull out tangles.
Anyway , just my opinion that you should stick with a spinner so you can concentrate on fishing , not polishing up on how to cast a conventional.

I agree with Saltheart. You have a Ben Doer/Penn combo right?

yep, penn 6500SS/ben doerr SS10M2 with 20/8 Fireline. I know that's a bit light and I'd rather go with 30/12 since I'm fishing bigger water but that's what I have and I'll get by with that.
Saltheart is absolutely right. I don't get to fish bigwater that often so I'll probably be doing that a bunch. Maybe if we are fishing by you guys, you can show me the ins and outs of these reels so I don't screw up too badly when I get my own.
Thanks anyways.

John knowing your water and my preference for what I'll be throwing , would that heavier 7 foot Lami/Baitrunner 3500 you tried suffice? I'm going to throw plastic if I can, but it will handle some mid sized plugs, just rather throw plastic...maybe eels . I would think the plastic that time of year (peanut bunker) would be a good bet, but then it always is regardless of what size bait's in the water .
Let me ask you another question, relative to Korkers, which I don't own. In lieu of corkers, I have an alternative, assuming I can find the bag of spikes. My heavy duty camping/hiking boats, have screw in spikes (similar to golf shoes) for when you might be ice fishing, would they be ok? A little warm for that time of year (2000 gram thinsilate), but for one night they'd be fine. Or should I look to borrow/buy some korkers? The boots are waterproof, but they aren't waders, so I'd be limited to what they and my rain (splash) pants would allow. If you really think waders are a must let me know.

GS - hip boots and splash pants are preferrable for most Rhody spots as we tend to fish on the rocks. I can spot you Korkers as I have a spare set...
The rod will work - but nothing longer? Also - think sand eels too...

Nice fish Dave.
You owe me a trip to Nausset. I think I may there around the first week of October. Is the aquarium still full then? I hear the going rate is 2 darters, is this true
All these trips is pulling me away from Montauk, I hope it pays off
