Funky chicken?
Saw some strange looking birds in gansett today. About the size of a chicken , but extra fat. They had a bald head, white cheeks, and red turkey like skin hanging from the sides. There featheres were black and white, with very intracite desighns. Anyone know what they could be? Never seen them before.

Ahh sit, chiken and grits!! I thought about running one over. Also made some chicken noises to them, which got em all going making all kinds of noises.

I don't think they are native. I think people keep them like chickens. They have a couple of them at the umbrella factory in charlestown. In highschool we used to get baked and go watch them get chased around by the peacocks and geese. I saw some wandering a guy's front yard down the street from me, I assume they were domesticated.
We do have a TON of wild turkey up here in East Greenwich, west of rt. 4.

Lots of Guinea hens in Exeter, someone who had a whole flock moved away and let them go wild. I see them very often.

The Wolf Rock Veterinary place has some guinea hens on RT. 2 in Exeter. They have almost caused more accidents on my morning commute to work running across the road to Sophie's Coffee. They are loud annoying birds. My wife's grandmother used to have some.

these birds are great if you hve lots of ticks in your yard. they eat insects, and will wipe out a tick population in a few weeks.

Those things make great watch-dogs. They raise a racket whenever someone comes near to the house. Moonshiners down home used them as Revenuer alarms.

My sister's got some of those birds that have gone wild near her house. They are very 'active' and noisy when the sun comes up.
They do have 1 redeeming quality, they eat ticks...
Thanksgivings coming up, maybe one of you guys oughta go out and get surf and turf (er fowl) and try one for thanksgiving.
And if your looking for venison, a big fat 8 point buck crossed the road at 8 this morning right at the point judith lighthouse. he turned around to wacth me drive by, and never even tried to hide in the brush. So much for the age/wisdom thing ... |

Yup just about every moring on my way to work it is a wildlife minagery (sp?). This morning was 1 guinea hen, 3 deer, and five turkey (one almost landing on the hood of my car coming down from its roost). Almost had fresh bird for thanksgiving.
