About 150 yrds from where the pic was taken.
After being out there on so many hunts the guilt trip sets in. As I walked out the door yesterday afternoon my kids said " don't come home without a deer". Nothin like having support from wife and kids! I shot this young buck with 45 minutes left of the 04' deer season. It sure felt good to get the monkey off my back.
Out with bang...Thank God!!

Nice job Tony. The kids must have been excited.
Canalratt and myself got out yesterday. He jumped a couple of does, and hit one. It was a 3 1/2 hr recovery, I am sure the steaks will be worth it.

Man it was a fruetrateing year all through bow and shotgun! Determined I told the wife all I want is a blackpowder gun. Couldn't get out till the 30th, jumped two does that offered no shots. The last day headed back to the same woods with Billy again. Took a stand for an hour or so radioed Billy told him I was going to find them. Still hunted slowly jumping them in a knockdown coverd with briers. Got a decent going away shot and found a decent bloodtrail but the light colored blood and spray I knew the shot was probably clipped around the lungs and back a little. Tracking it was insane! We waited a while, Billy got out of his tree stand had him go ahead where the deer was going and we jumped that deer and another one with it. Decided to wait another half hour getting all our gear together and started tracking up almost to the main road, by a house through some nasty thickets and the deer circled and went right back on its tracks! Jumped the deer again and actually got a shot off, found its tracks withe no blood, tracked it for a while all the time I'm saying this has to be a differant deer, gave up on it. Billy and his bottomless pit needed food so he went to the store. I was determined to find the deer, went back and started down the bloodtrail but soon knew it wasn't right. Headed the other way and noticed a bloodtrail going off with the deer down ten feet away. Radioed Billy and pulled the truck to 20 feet away! Yah I think I like this blackpowder gig!

Nice work Tony. Just think you now got a place to hang it on your property.
I got a shot on Thursday 140yds trotting doe clean miss.
Hope the winter is not to bad and the heard is healthy for next year.
NOW STRIP DOWN THAT GUN AND CLEAN IT.

Congrads to all the lucky/good hunters out there. I was not 1 of you this year but not for a lack of trying.
There's always next year

Hmm just wondering where I said it took TWO shots to down this deer. Shooting at a range and in the woods in an actual hunting situation are two very differant things. Everytime you shoot at an animal many things can go wrong. Last year I had a perfect 30 yard broadside shot, perfect hit through the heart and vitals but the deer still ran 40 yards into thick underbrush. If I feel I have a good shot I will take it, a going away shot at a fast moveing animal no way, but just moveing off yes. I took my shot and did what your suppose to, wait and not push the deer. Thats why it took 2 1/2 hours to recover it. Wounding an animal is every hunters nightmare. This was my longest recovery after a shot and I have never left a wounded animal in the woods to die.
