Need A Definition Of A Dynasty In Football...Can Anyone Help?
Anyone....can anyone tell me what their definition of a dynasty is in the NFL?
Here is mine....Any team that dominates all of football over an extended period of time thus reaching their sports pinacle/zenith on more than one occasion during that span!
Websters defines a dynasty as:A family or group that maintains power for several generations.
The group of Patriots has maintained power over the NFL for multiple seasons....same thing!

Larry,
The Pats have won 2,Not 3, Not 4
And sqeaked by in both with field goals!
If and WHEN they win one or 2 more, Then you can use the word Dynasty!!!
Winning one convinsingly would help you're argument also!!!

Ron...I love how you take any credit at all away from the Patriots for winning the 2 Superbowls by saying that they squeaked by......shows how silly a comment that is. Man, I hope the Pats Squeak by in many more Superbowls......we don't require blowouts we require victories!

one more superbowl win in the next two years would make the patriots a dynasty, they're thisclose right now. amazing run they're now on. imagine what the faider and kneeler fans would be saying if they're team had this success.

Larry,
From 1987 - 1999 the Bronkos played in 5 superbowls, and won 2 in a row (1998 & 1999 )
were they considered a Dynasty? NO
Like I said
The pats won 2 in 3 years (by a total of 6 points)
If and when they win a few more, get back to me then!!!

One more Superbowl in the next couple of years would qualify as a dynasty...I don't think 2 quite cuts it
Ron...It doesn't matter what you win a game by....as long as you win.
Lets not forget that the pats were 14 1/2 point underdogs in the 1st superbowl they won and people thougtht that was to low...So a 3 point victory there should qualify a little more

The Browns They won a grand total of one NFL Championship in the 60s--same number as the friggin' Eagles. The Packers won 5.
If you want to count getting to the championship game and losing over a short period, which the Brownies did in the mid 60s, the early 60s Giants, 70s Vikings, 80s Broncos and 90s Bills were dynasties, too

i thought the Browns won a bunch of championships with Jim Brown!
Wasn't thinking about the packers also!

The Pat's are definitely the class of the last FEW years, they just have to keep it up a couple more to be a dynasty,IMO. That takes nothing away from them, it's just that three years isn't a long enuff span. With free agency, there may not be another dynasty in the traditional sense of the word. Five years of success would be my idea of a dynasty.

Definiton of a dynasty:
Boston Celtics: 16 Championships, 8 in a row = DYNASTY
Montreal Canadiens: 24 Cups, 5 in a row = DYNASTY
New York Yankees: 26 Championships, 5 in a row = DYNASTY
New England Patriots: 2 Championships = NOT YET A DYNASTY
Again: this ain't a knock on the Pat's...I just think the word dynasty carries a lot of weight. As of now, the Pat's are a team on a very good run. Keep it up a few years and Bingo...they're a dynasty. But not yet.

Don't forget my Packers.....12 Championships...granted, most are from a long time ago but.....made some decent runs in the 90's...NFC was a very tough Conference back then ( Cowboys, 49ers, Packers.)

5 in the 60s, including 2 SBs. Plus a loss in the 1960 title game.
6 appearances in the final game of the season in 10 years---not too shabby
And back then---if you didn't win the division, you didn't play for the title. Couple of times they were edged out by Unitas' Colts or the Bears.
