Needlefish History Presentation - Part 2
Just in case any of you missed the "Needlefish History" presentation I gave in January, you have a chance to catch it next week. The Salt Water Edge Tackle shop has invited me to give my "Needlefish Plug History" presentation at their Fly Tying Fair on Saturday Feb 19th. Details of the show are on the following link: http://www.saltwateredge.com/events/flyfair2005.html
I also had an opportunity to check out a new foul weather jacket at their shop recently. It is a Simms "Surf Pullover". Looks like it will fit the bill. One will be raffled off at the SWE show.
Hope to see some of you on the 19th.

Thanks for the photo Rizzo - I've already been contacted by AdamR about the unknown needle at the top of photo #1 - it used to be his. Maybe he'll chime in here and give us the history.... Adam?
Chris - I will be doing the Snowstorm Blitz Presentation at the TCTFN in Fairhaven. I also promissed Flaptail I'd include some of the Needlefish Presentation in with it. So it will be a "doubleheader" in a somewhat condensed format - other wise it would take up 2 hours - can't put the Non-fishing spouses through something that long
Tlap,
Like to see some in your collection - bring them to the show.

The one marked "unknown" was once in my collection (I'm still kicking myself in the butt for getting rid of it!). It came out of a tackle shop on Martha's Vineyard with a bunch of plugs from the 40's - 50's. It's a "folk art" plug, not a factory made plug. I would say that it is one of the earliest attempts at a needlefish style plug. Floyd Roman came out with a plug called the Sandee in the mid 50's (maybe VB the resident Floyd Roman guru will verify the date for us), but I think this one is earlier than that.

Thanks Karl,
I make mention of TS SRs needles in my presentation. Tony Jr gave me the info a while back. Nice to actually see them in a photo. Wire-thru or screw-eye? Approximate Length/weight?

That needle that AdamR. said he once owned looks very "Fishmaster". The way the hooks are placed and secured and the very hook type. Could it have been a prototype? A lot of thought wnet into it to be a "folk art" plug.

Why even try.........

DZ, interesting presentation Saturday! Sorry I didn't get a chance to talk to you. Bring your camera along to the TFCTFN and I'll bring a couple needles for you to photograph. I have the actual jointed Gag's needle in your slide show hanging on my wall. I recognized the eBay picture instantly.
