Question Going both ways

Would it be possible to make a surf rod to use conventional and spinning. I want to wrap a 1201m for conventional and use a spinner for a backup. Also , does anybody have experience using a add-on trigger for a reelseat. Pros & cons. Thanks

Sure is. Just wrap it with spinning guides and turn it over when you put a conventional on it, and ignore the weird stares people give you. All of my custom rods---both spinning and conventional--have the guides wrapped directly on the spine.

Years ago, my dad was driving us home from the Cape when the cheap suction cup rod holders on the roof of the car gave way and the rods fell off. He had a Harnell 552 with a Squidder on it. The reel frame got bent, and the guides on the rod cracked, so for some reason I still can't fathom, he decided to have Charley Murat re-wrap that pool cue as a spinning rod. When I grew up and bought my first Squidder, I used that rod which still had a Mildrum 75 mm first guide. Caught my first few 30# plus fish on it.

Someone used to make an aftermarket trigger clamp for reels that accepted a rod clamp. Only way I know to add a trigger to a reel seat that doesn't have one. Mike cc used to sell them. They made them for most Newells, the 7000 size Abus and the older Penn conventionals (Squidder, Surfmaster, Jigmaster etc.).
