fisherman hands

I don't know about you guys but between the braid cuts , hook poikes and release knicks my hands are killing me already and it is only June 7!

Yesterday I could not take it anymore. Lotions were not cutting it and didn't make it them feel much better. I got some squid juice on my hands and the pain in the cuts was just too much. (That stuff stings when you get it in a cut). I asked my wife to help me out. She found something that seemed to really help. "Gloves in a bottle" http://www.glovesinabottle.com/
It is not a lotion. It goes on like a lotion and drys into a very very thin latex glove that wears off in about a 1/2 day. (you can hardly feel it). But it seals your skin from the air and your own body heals it. I put some on and it is a little messy but when it dried I have to say it felt damn good the rest of the night.

I also finally picked up some aquaskins black thunder gloves. I normally don't like fishing with gloves but I was at wits end and these are pretty thin and they seem to really protect your hands. I tied a double uni-knot with them on and it seemed ok. Also they look like braid will cut right thru them but I was throwing 3 oz plugs with braid most of the night and sinching up knots much tighter then I would bare handed and the finger tip and palm corners where the line was shows NO wear at all. Time will tell but I have to say after one night I am pretty impressed with both of these products. My hands feel better already.

Thumbs up

Try what an old timer once showed me. If your hands get raw from fish cuts, simply piss on them. Although I have never tried it personally, he claimed it worked great. I secretly applied hydrogen peroxide after my nights fishing and told my friend I was using the natural method. BTW, I always greeted him with a wave or a tip of the hat.

That how Jorge Piss-ada, the Yankees catcher, supposedly toughens up his hands. Notice he doesn't wear batting gloves. If you ever get to meet him I wouldn't shake his hand

I saw this in a recent issue of Field and Stream.

Urine Trouble
To pee or not to pee?
by Jerome B. Robinson

Your own fresh urine is an excellent sterile antiseptic to use on small cuts, burns, insect bites, and other skin maladies that occur when you are without medical supplies. Produced by your own body, it is unlikely to infect you with foreign bacteria. Urine was commonly used as an antiseptic before the advent of modern pharmacology. Be sure to apply a modern antiseptic and visit your doctor if necessary once you get out of the woods.
