Nice day! Didn't catch anything :(
It was about 60 on Plum Island today. I went fishing in the later part of the afternoon. I was using fresh clams *( Surfland recommended fresh clams, because reports of cod being caught in this area )* My friend always using frozen Mackrel, and it seems to be working. Well it did last year for him. His biggest striper off the island was 33in. I have some questions about lures,leaders,etc...I will post another post for those questions though.
Happy <><ing everyone.

I wish my brother-in-law was with me today, because only he has the patience to clean a cooler full of slab crappie. Didn't we catch a boat load today. Friend Pete had one hell of a day, because including the crappie he landed this 5 lb pickeral . and lost a pig bass around 5-6 lbs at the boat. I caught a slew of crappie, a nice 4+ pickeral myself and maybe 8-10 small largemouth. Not stripers but still catching .

It was nice on the ponds! My buddy and me landed ten bass over three lbs. and missed one about five. Funny we actually got most of the fish under the bushes in skinny water! You would hook a three lber and half a dozen nice fish would come shooting out! Was great to see bass suck your lure up as the water was very clear.

Nice job GS and C-ratt,
No need to apologize for being out there catchin' some fish. I actually took stock of some of my freshwater gear this weekend. Line is from my fall canadian trip two years ago...
I've got about a million plastic worms of assorted colors and like 3 spinnerbaits, a bomber and one rattle-trap. And assorted other rusty, melted worm-plastic covered, stinky JUNK.
You guys got everything on plastic worms, right?

Spinnerbaits but mostly on jig-n-pigs. I won't throw worms till around the end of April but will throw flukes now and then. Most bass now come on hard baits like cranks, traps, jerkbaits and what we used Saturday.

Back in PA at this time of year we threw traps, traps and traps. And some small grubs or tubes. I never got into jig'n'pig, though alot of guys did well on them. I just threw lighter worms or tubes and got outfished. I must have been stubborn back then...
Ya know, I always felt like it defied logic that a fast moving bait like a crankbait would outfish a worm or pig or whatever at that time of year, with those water temps. But some of the best days I've ever had at any time of year were in late March on traps.
Anyways, one of these years I should get back into freshwater fishing. Maybe I'll keep my aluminum... are the lakes and ponds mostly restricted horsepower or not? Alot of the lakes in Western PA were 10HP lakes. I have an 18 on my tracker, but I have an old 6hp johnson at my dad's that runs great. It would be slow as heck, but if the lakes are restricted, it would be better than nothing.

Schoolie there are plenty of places you can go with an 18hp. A place thats loaded with bass is 24 south to rt 104 right off exit, boat ramp on right30 yds up the road. I think it is called Lake Nippenicket (sp?).

Got most of the crappie on the float & fly, the what? See the article I wrote on it if want more info. The bass & pickeral came on husky jerks and an inline, but a few also fell for the float & fly. I've always thought it might be applied in the salt, but I've never gotten around to testing that theory.

SM there are tons of places for a boat that size. There are a few that are 10 HP restricted on the Cape but are small and you just use your trolling moter. One place right in our neighborhood that I get 5 Lb.+ bass is Whitmans Pond in Weymouth and no restrictions. If you want to go sometime let me know, I'll be glad to show you around.
