Leftovers
Got an airbrush. Emptied out the reject drawer. Had some nice ones but they died of smalle poxy. Waiting for dermabrasion now. These two made it (the hooks are only for show, the fish should stick to them nicely). Ugh.

George... hows that darter work ? I made one almost identical.. Took a large ballerina and sloped it and put a mouth on it .. comes in upside down .. one of many failures I gave up on .. are you weighting that ... nice flatty side too ..

Tested it this AM, still drying out. It's stable, but nothing great. The long tail seems to slow the action more than I like, and I had to remove the tail hook to get it to do much in stillwater. It also runs deep and I think I'll need to drop the front loop some. I turned the thing years ago from basswood (which is too bouyant for darters in my experience) and it's got a pretty good slug of lead between the front and middle hooks. Floated OK, (tail slightly down and diving plane level with the surface is the way I try to set up darters), but my experience has been that darters swim better when made of heavy wood rather than soft wood with all the weight centered in the belly. Probably I'll try one in maple.

I think that shape needs weight forward. You might try shifting the hook forward and using the current hole for your weight.
