Record Profits...AGAIN!!!!
Exxon/Mobile has posted 8.4 billion dollar profit for the first quarter of the year ......they claim it is not due to overcharging at the pump but to......"good business planning". Yeah....planning to screw the American consumer!!!
Yet...the government does not see a problem here???

The oil companies make 9 cents a gallon profit from one gallon of gas compared to about 60 cents a gallon the gov takes in taxes. Why dont folks get upset about this figure also?? Percentage wise the Gov is taking more of your money per gallon of gas! Not the oil companies. I read this and i was stunned. Most people prob think big oil is making $2 profit per gallon. But they are making 9 cents after all is said and done. Take it for what its worth, but i found it to be an interesting figure. Profit margins per gallon of gas: Oil companies 9 cents, goverment 60 cents.
I bet Coca Cola makes more profit percentage wise per bottle of coke than oil companies make per gallon of gas.
Just some food for thought.
And for the record, i'm pissed at paying $3 a gallon for gas too.

Not necessarily true, this is more BIG oil propaganda. Its mathematically impossible for them to make the billions they do at .09 /gallon. They own some of the RETAIL (gas stations) just like Mc Donalds Corp own some of the franchises in house. This is where the bigt $ is (just like Wal mart). I dont have exact #s, buts thats the reality.
Also at .09 a gallon, how do you explain price differences of up to .50 cents/gal from one gas station to another and over $1 if you look at a larger geographic area? The oil companies would be the biggest idiots in the world to miss that one. They are schrewd, and crafty liars.
IMO every penny of the 8 bil should go to the envirenment & to help the 33,000 people whos jobs they permanently affected with the Valdez spill in '89. I will never forgive Exxon for that. People just now see that the 2 bil they claim to have spent on the cleanup is just a slap on the wrist to these guys. Its the cost of doing business to them, and they PASS IT ON TO YOU AND ME. So every time we "punish" them for a spill, they stick it right back to US.

You might be right, I have no idea. And my facts may to acurrate too, but again i have no idea whats true or not. You get different opinons and facts from everyone. I posted that to give a different point to the gas debate.
I see you have alot of hatred towards the oil companies for making ANY kind of profit. Why the hell would they continue to be in buisness if people like you had thier way and would'nt let them make ANY kind of profit in a buisness? You think gas is high now? Wait until people take away all thier profits, why the heck would they even bother staying in business if they couldnt make a dime? You'd have ZERO gas for your vehicle.
And why do you have nothing to say about the insane taxes we are paying on gas?! Were is your outrage about that? Oh wait, this is liberal new england and folks love to pay high taxes, and love those tax increases!

Hey skip,
I was in no way trying to argue with you,in fact I enjoy your posts. typed words can easily be taken the wrong way. I agree with the taxes too, but we do pay less taxes on gas than almost every european country where approx 50 to 60% of the price is taxes. Im no expert on this by any stretch.
Do I despise big oil, yes I do. They control the price,no question about it. Wouldt you love to be able to say to your company " i want 100% inclease in salary", and im not taking no for an anwer, and then actually get it?. Oil companies have merged to the point where they "make the market" they would be competing with themselves if they lowered the price. With all these hefty profits, in a true free economy would you not expect some competition to step in, a "start up company" like in the airlines,or any other competitive business?! (monopolies are still illegal last i checked) No way thats happening, the good ole boys got this one locked up pretty tight, and they would marry their first cousin to keep it in the family. Thats the diff between making a profit, which is the american way, and GOUGING the consumer, because youre the only show in town. That is criminal. They punished Ma Bell for this years ago.
Im in NJ by the way, our taxes are pretty high too, but maybe not as high as Mass.

According to NBC its around 9 cents profit per dollar, not per gallon like i stated earlier. Still rather low of you think about. Not what i would have thought. I dont really care what the cause of high gas is, Just fix it so its lower damnit!

Its not that low when 146 billion gallons of gas a year is consumed in the US.
Which equates at $2.50 a gallon to $32 million into the pockets of the oil companies every year.
Thats PURE profit for the company post everything else.
Thats still alot of money.

the 9 cents a dollar is what they make AFTER they are all paid, they deduct all their salleries from this. It is called second tier profit margins. So in effect, they could give themselves huge raises, so they can report less "profits" So essentially, they made 9 cents a dollar of pure unappropriated profit. The most sucessfull companies in history have made about .25 of a cent per dollar of unappropriated profit.
Still think 9 cents is a small amount?
