Line advice??

I have the shimano stradic 6000 and the shimano 4500 baitrunner. What line do you guys recommend? This weekend I locked into a fish that was too big for what I was equipped with. I know big fish are gonna run, but I couldn't even slow him down. He went right into the rocks, and broke off. I don't know if my problem is the lb. test I am using, or if I need something to be able to withstand the rocks.
