Micro-Blitz!

Today was one of those days I dream about! Sloppy, rainy, windy, damp, wet and raw with the tide coming in......all alone in one of my favorite spots for 3 hours as micro-bass blitzed the beach non-stop! Wind and water in your face and action on every cast! Pencils and spooks were the order of the day though the fish were keying on bait I was getting whacked on every cast! Its a good kind of tired after an afternoon like this! No keepers....not even close but I don't care! I had a ball!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

Talking

Larry, to those of us who have not yet traveled through the three stages of angling's inlightened conscieousness, sisze still matters.

You have, in only a very short time, been able to bridge the gap between size equating prowess and personal self esteem to the final stage ( that took me almost 30 years) to realize that in order to enjoy one's self and find enjoyment in any angling situation and to take from it finally, what it is really meant to be, simply put, fun!

Knowing that one has reached that level of inner peace and leaving the anxiety of catching fish that are not always "large" ( I really find that term boring), is a significant step in your angling journey.

It means that from now on wherever you go, no matter what you catch, or not catch, you will have that serene sense of being able to enjoy the moment for what it really is. You, my friend have matured and arrived at a special place, you lucky dog.

I myself spent Monday evening on an outer cape beach catching bluefish and loving every minute of it. They were big, mean and watching them push volumes of bait onto the sand at our feet was unforgettable, especially in the numbers and sizes of them. And the seal trying to eat my fish as I was about to land it was the most exciting and I and the Bluefish won! Now that's serenity with one's inner angler!

Why even try.........

Steve....I require only one thing to make any fishing trip a success.....just one fish! No size requirement! Just 1 lousey, little fish.....that is why I go and what I enjoy! Catching fish! Sure I desire to put large fish on the beach.....but if I went out each time with that as my goal, I would not enjoy myself! Yesterday met all of my requirements and I had alot of fun! One of the most fun days I ever had was 2 years ago out on the Race by the lighthouse......it was late fall, a beautiful sun kissed, cool afternoon and I was alone on the beach hammering away at shoolies all day in the waves as they rolled in! I was throwing a Bernzy Surf Howdy I knocked off (credit to Bernzy ) I had 4-5 fish following the plug through the waves on each cast and you could see them in the wave as the sun provided perfect back lighting! It was one of the most beautiful and enjoyable days I have ever had! The 70 fish I caught and happily released alive sure made it fun!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

First off// Larry .. Glad ya had Fun.. that is what matters..

Steve.. 3 stages of angling.. .. I'd love to hear it..

Large is always good, but, not the top priority.. large numbers of small fish is cool too.. sometimes more fun.. blues.. small doses, once a year... Thank you.

What Stage am I at Steve?.. most times I'm just glad to be out there.. have had nights (more each year) with nothing.. used to really rile me.. now it doesn't matter.. I love the night sky, the dusk, the false dawn, the sunrise.. the solitude.. or companionship, depending if I'm alone or not.. always try to learn something, every time I go..
this year.. one thing I have noticed.. empty beaches.. lack of fish?, high gas prices?..seals, mung, etc? who knows .. even non ORV beaches.... even weekend nights... the herd has thinned, not that I am complaining.. tells me too, that when the word is that the action is hot, the crowds come, not so hot.. they stay away...I digress..
the fish are a plus, Yes, by all means.. just to be there.. and enjoy.. lack of action, no longer destroys me Seals it what pisses me off these days.
but.. "Large" .. is always good.... ..
(I know U like Large too, Steve, even if your bored...)

I was feeling the same way about a week and a half ago!! I know "blues" are a dirty word to most but three hours (could have been more but we were pooped!)in the same spot and a fiesty 10 pounder on just about every cast.....we were laughing like little kids! In fact I cant remember the last time I had so much fun fishing to tell you the truth! Best part was watching our friends & their kids being able to catch fish like they never could have imagined! we had to start a system....my hubby was the official "dehooker" and I was the official "re-tie and repair shop" I dont want to even think about how much $$$ worth of gear was lost that nite but it was worth every penny just to see 9 other people with ear to ear grins on their faces, it made me feel good inside.....sometimes happiness comes from the most unexpected events.

Simplify.......

Larry, i am sure you would have enjoyed taking a pic of those fish as well as catching. Had a similar experience seeing 3 or 4 stripers in their

teens runnin down a wave parallel to the beach with a 5pm September setting sun, giving a light yellow/green background . It is etched in my

memory forever. There is so much more to fishing than catching.

saved a trip with micro bass tuesday. tried for a few hours for large,, but then realized these folks don't care about size. heck they've never seen a bass let alone a keeper. so we went inside the harbor and found the blitz. small bass to 22" and a little bit larger blues.
light tackle casting at it finest. they had a blast. i had a blast.

birds shreaking-bait breaking-fish slapping-reels singing..
those are the best days...

even i got bass thumb

One thing to remember ...

One thing to remember is that no matter how big a fish is, it is always fighting for its life ... so I appreciate every fish I ever hook -- with the exception of the dogfish -- but all bass attack each offering with as much zest and aggression as the next fish, so they are all fun. Would prefer to always catch LARGE, but that would also take away the enjoyment of catching LARGE.

Larry, keep at it, glad you had a good day ... at least it was better than sitting at my desk ...

Glad ya had fun Larry

I just got back from a few hours of trying and catching schoolies with my friend Steve, it was fun and good company.they can't always be cows.

The United States Constitution does not exist to grant you rights; those rights are inherent within you. Rather it exists to frame a limited government so that those natural rights can be exercised freely.

1984 was a warning, not a guidebook!

It's time more people spoke up with the truth. Every time we let a leftist lie go uncorrected, the commies get stronger.
