I'd like to catch some mackerel. Where should I try?

The last Saturday of October last year, I was out just beyond Salem Sound fishing and catching small mackerel and some cod. This was the afternoon that forecasted 45 degree highs and it ended up snowing 3-4 inches in 3 hours. I'm wondering if there are any mackerel worth fishing for out there yet, or, if there will be any worth fishing for in the MV area?

My dilemma is whether to trailer to the North Shore or stay in the sound.
