Canal 10/8
Went to the canal last night but couldn't buy a hit. Fish breaking the surface for 3 hours straight and we threw poppers, dannys, bombers, rebels and needles without a single take!!! I talked to 5 other's that were fishing that had the same results. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
It wasn't a total waste of time because the "show" at the Maspee Performing Arts Center was good.

Best advice would be to fish it more than one night... sometimes there aren't many fish running through at a particular time... there are always fish in there somewhere though. The most effective method fo me has been jigging... you HAVE to have appropriate tackle though, a stout rod and a reel that can hold enough line to stop a strong fish in the current. 3-6 ounce jigs and put some time in listening to people and bouncing jigs, you'll find a few productive holes. If you're not into jigging... throwing bombers can be rewarding though usually on smaller fish.. and drifting eels around slack water can be excellent on the right night.

If you were anywhere near the east end, some of those breaking fish you might have noticed were dogfish doing their spawning ritual dance, from a lot of the reports I've seen. I wonder if that's what I felt bumping my Tsunami shad but not taking it

Are you serious? I was at the East end until 5pm and it was nuts. Nothing big, but all the schoolie bass you could handle. There was bait everywhere...a fair amount of bird activity and blitzes popping up all over the place...... blues mixed in as well.
(not trying to start a riot or anything...these were all school bass, but fun nonetheless)
