Wiring and Electronics

I am going to replace a number of my electronics this winter in my SeaCraft CC and I'd like to have the wiring squared away professionally when I do. It is functional as it is now, but I'd like to have things flush mounted and cleaner.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good electronics shop or guy who does this type of work?

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

IMO, it is the easiest thing for a shade-tree boat mechanic to do on his own. Plan it out and take your time. VERY EASY!!!. Otherwise you will be paying $60-80 / hr. for a very time consuming job. not hard, just takes time.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Zacs! I have considered it, but, $80an hour may prove to be a bargin if I do something wrong and it leads to a blown radar unit, or worse, a fire on board. But I have located a book or two that discuss basic boat wiring, so before making any final decisions, I might buy that and have a read first.

Hooper,

What Zacs said.....really. Your not dealing with 4160 Volts....it's only 12V...2 wires. Just get the Polarity right.

At the least if you really wanted to pay someone for something you can do at least snake all the wires yourself, this is the long part of the job.

DO NOT GO TO STAGE HARBOR MARINE if you end up in chatham...

I bet if you PM Little Round, he could point you in the right direction.

the hardest part is snaking the wires.

When I was putting together my Maritime Skiff I thought the guy who did the wiring did a horrible job. So......I took it all apart and put it back together myself. It came out perfect and looks professional. The best part is I know how everything is put together so when I have an issue troubleshooting is easy.

Do it yourself!!!!!!

If you decide to have a marina do the work. Go to McDougals in Falmouth. They have done excellent work for me in the past including completely rewiring a 22 Center Console and mounting electronics. They do a-lot of higher end big money boats so they know they have to have attention to detail. They are expensive, but for me it's worth it to know my radar and gps systems were wired by a pro.

Rip, that was my thought too, but I enjoy doing projects myself as well. I'll explore things a bit and make up my mind this winter.
