First Block Island Trip Ever.
Hello everyone.
I'm thinking about going to Block Island August 13 around 9:00 till 6:00 for a day trip with the family, there going to the beach i'm going fishing.I never fished the island before.First of all is it worth going that time of year and in the daytime. Secondly is there any decent area to fish within walking disctance of the ferry. I will have waders, korkers, surfrod, and just plugs no bait.Could anyone helpout I would greatly appreiacte any pointers you can P.M. me if you want.
Thanks Sean.

Not worth it in the daytime from the beach...But very much worth it at Night...Your better off booking a charter boat out there for a half day trip...You may be able to pop up some blues...but for bass from shore..its all nights that time of the year

i disagree with #^^^^^^&. bring the family down to the beach and throw out a chunk or bring a few rods and fan out a few chunks. If you use crabs you might find a few blackfish. make it a family affair and even if you do get skunked your fishing. what can be better?
from the ferry, just south of the old harbor breakwater is some bassy waters.

Here's my take:
It's worth it to drop the family off at the beach. The beaches are very nice and they will have a good time. I tend to agree more with #^^^^^^&, however, that fishing during the daytime just isn't ideal and isn't the best time to fish seriously for striped bass. Now, having said that, you may want to to what Nebe indicated and throw a chunk off and isolated spot on the beach/rocks b/c you never know what you'll catch. If anything, its worth it for you to scout out during the day, take some notes and return in the future when you know the area better
If your ferry arrives in front of Ballard's restaurant. Your family can beach out front and you can walk south (Left off the ferry) for a couple miles.
Bring a few poppers and a pair of breathable waders. Heck, you may find some of DZ's lime green needles washed up on the shore.
Have fun and enjoy

New Harbor Channel
You can always take the family down to the Coast Guard Station. The beach is OK and you never know what might turn up in the channel. Bass won't be big, but there's always fluke, blues, and at that time of year maybe even a bone or FA. Might be crowded in August though.
