New Mass State Record Porbeagle 455Lbs
Well,
Four friends and myself landed a new Mass state record Porbeagle on Sunday east of the bank. We were on my friend Mike Evenson's (Nautica Sportfishing Charters) boat. Fish took 3 hours 40 minutes to land.
It was a beautiful day that started off with sinking stomachs as we broke off a small giant on a 130 that parted the mono about 50 feet from the boat, 15 feet from the bar ........decided to go east for some cod and haddock....put out a chum bucket and one shark rod for something to do while bottom fishing. After just 2 haddock I was reeling in a double header dogfish and the porbeagle was following them up and made a pass by about 4 feet from the boat. About 15 minutes later the fish found our bait. I set the hook and game on. Had a slow ride in from 30 miles out of Scituate as after trying 3 time couldn't get it over the rail on the 25 Grady.
We have to thank Greg Sears and Tom King down in the harbor who made things happen late in the day to find a truck and scale to get it weighed on a short notice.....for without a weight would just be supper. It was quite a scene. Also had John Chisholm from the DMF there as witness to the weighing, he took the stomack contents to work to examine such a large female.
Was also nice to get her on a standup rod that I wrapped last fall after the season was over, it performed nicely.
Some pics.............

Congrats, very nice fish. If NMFS gets their way that record will stand for a long long time. In case anyone missed it the proposed HMS regs will make it illegal to keep a porbeagle!
