Splicing braid

I had to cut out a wind knot halfway into a spool and saved the line. Using 30# fireline. Whats a good braid to braid splice knot? Or should I just trash the spool and start new? Not sure if I would trust the line again

Uni to uni do a google search on fishing knots and you will find what you need.

yup works great... i keep forgetting to pick up new line.. currently have FOUR uni to uni's on my spool lol. had to start stealing line off another reel.. oooops. unfortunately that spools now down to the mono.. so i gotta remember next time i'm in the shop. so far they've held up to numerous blues.. and with braid really dont effect things too much.

If you are using the new hollow braid, then you could snake one end of the break inside the other to create an almost seamless connection.

Failing that, maybe a bimini to bimini loop, naw. There is no good solution except to buy braid in bulk and be super careful about twist.

I would start fresh. The line wont be as strong, and chances are it will just get caught on the knot and cause more problems. Just my opinion.....

If u must..Double uni to uni It's almost as strong as the mainline..an like mac said a little zap a gap keeps the knot from eventually cutting into itself.
I have been doing this thing where I use a 20 ft section of 30 lb fireline connected to the main line of 20 lb fireline.The 20 lets me cast farther and get down better.The 30 gives me more peace of mind around the rocks..
it's been holding up fine so far.I put some good pressure on it also..

I've been using Bimini loop to loop for years and have a 100% success rate and have taken some good sized fish too and on one reel there were 2 loop to loops. It may not be the best choice to go through the guides on a cast but otherwise its worked great for me.

I have never spliced braid to braid, and while many here have had good results doing it, there are some other views on the practice...see here an article that you may already have seen which is not too positive on splicing. http://www.sportfishingmag.com/article.jsp?ID=43557

If its hollow core, you can splice using the "chinese finger trap" type o splice and get a 100% splice. If its solid and know will be weaker than the line. Bimini to Bimini is probably the best choice, followed by two spyder hitches in a loop to loop connection.

When I used regular braid I used to use a uni to uni to cure that with no problem. I have yet to have a wind knot with Fireline.

Wait, wait, I know a solution.

Buy some of the hollow core line, maybe at a higher strength. Cut off a 3 foot section or so and use it to splice each end. The way you do the splice is show in the Practical Fishing Knots. Open the hollow braid, insert the broken end, then poke it through a couple of inches along, poke it out of the interior of the the brake, run on the outside and put the end back inside the hollow line...hard to explain. Should be a good splice.
