Lathe question

I'm getting a jet mini lathe for xmas, and have some questions. I know I need turning tools like gouges, skews, etc.. what sizes do you guys use? Also I believe I need to get a chuck to hold the wood and recomendations? I just want to have everything I need to be turning on xmas day. If anyone could help me out I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Facemask
3/4 " roughing gouge
parting tool
1 1/4" oval skew
Some calibers
whetstone
woodturning video
longer tool rest
the skew will frustrate you at first.....you may have more success with a 1" shallow spindle gouge or scrapers instead.

Will,

You don't a chuck to hold the wood. The wood is held between a spur center at the headstock end and a live center at the tailstock end. Both of these come with the lathe. A chuck may come in handy for other things though, such as holding a drill bit for through drilling.
