Chum & Fishing From the Shore

What are your thoughts on throwing a bag of chum out while fishing from the surf? I usually fish the rocks on the south shore and thought that may be a good way to attract fish to the area I'm fishing. I attempted it for the first time last night and accounted for 2 dogfish. Although they weren't my target, I figure if they were attracted by the chum, other types of fish might be as well.

Thanks guys!

Bob

Works big time. Seems more effective on an open beach - not sure why. Not a bag though, more like thowing out a handful at a time or small spade's worth.

Keep a steady stream going like Joe said. Watch where the chum goes and fish IN the chum!So many guys chum a spot and then cast to France with their bait.

I just aquired an old magazine article about Cutty Hunk fishing .. These guys , the high rods of the Fishing Club wouldn't dream of fishing without a chummer .. A good chummer was held in very high regard ..

How about a squirt gun w/ menhaden oil in it.....couple of squirts every few minutes.

These guys were beside us last year at the RISAA show. They gave me a few tubs to try out but have not tried it yet. No smell and I could see throwing a tub of this stuff out in a mesh bag on a rope at the beach. Supposed to last hours and you can take it out and move it also.

They sell that at Bass Pro.
