Downloading music?

Maybe not such a good idea

Kid just got a fine for it, 22,500 a song he downloaded 30 songs that comes to 675,000

That's crazy

they should go after the web sites that offer this illegal music

Surfcasting Full Throttle

30 songs I used to do that in one short morning. That is not many. I don't do it too often any more and usually just one song I am looking for. . The days of a couple hundred are well behind me. Guy is getting screwed. I personally still believe once you buy the song you can share it, or do what ever you wish , with it. But thats just me.

How much of that money do you think the artists will see?

According to the record business spokesmen this is going to be one of the last cases that are brought against individuals and the focus is going to shift to the sites that allow you to upload stuff, e.g. Rapidshare. The publicity for the record companies from all this has been pretty negative. I think with the collapse of free FM radio format and MTV there is really no way for people to check out music especially for new artists. While youtube is out there the record companies have been trying to cut deals with youtube to get royalties and in some cases have been successful. Personally I have always taken the Dead's view on these things. Once a live show is played it is out there and people should be able to hear it as long as they are not being made available through a for profit network. I have a bigger issue with unreleased studio music that the artist decided not to release.
