LED Head Lamps
Saw John was looking at the Petzel LED in another thread, just recently picked up a Princeton Tec Aurora LED headlamp myself. I found this had better specs than the Petzel Tikka -- 3 Light level settings (plus strobe), lens angles on a hinge so you can direct it down in front, and waterproof. Was about the same cost at the places I looked..
I've traditionally used a AA flashlight taped to a cord necklace, but the 160 hours per set of batteries and light weight are nice
I've thought these were a little too bright sometimes, although I don't think people realize they shine in your eyes when they look directly at you. Plus, when three guys get them on at the same time on the rocks, its like a regular disco I'm hoping the low setting isn't as bright as I've seen, and may try masking tape over the lens, or part of it, to dim some. Really gonna be handy in the boat too

I own the Rrinceton Tech AURORA and love it! Once you go to the LED lights you won't want anything else. The battery life is awesome. It also has three settings from Brightest to least brightest.

Got it at Beans for $29, its listed under camping gear/accessories. You may be able to find it cheaper -- I had a gift cetificate to use up. I had tried to post the pic last time, but it didn't come through....

Nice, err, light Ken...
Where did ya get it? The light - not the bass (I'm guessin' that was Rhody or the back of the cape - well, that fish is a little tanner & sandy color - not rock purple, OK, the Cape )

I have a single bulb Petzl. Works fine. batteries last almost a whole season.
Lowes carries a Coleman which has three bulbs and looked pretty good. I don't know how waterproof it is. Its only about $15. Has a regular light , a high beam and a red eye. Smokey has used some kind of Coleman for a few years now and its still fine.
the Petzl is waterproof for sure but a lot more money.

I got the light at Ramsey Outdoors in NJ, (Paramus). If you can't find it up in you're area you can call them an they will mail it to you. Can't remember the price, I know it was in the $20's.
Hey Milo...Same fish eh??

Definitely go with the Princeton Tec lights. They are waterproof and they last forever. I got mine at REI and I can switch between led and halogen if I want more light.

John,
Hope you don't mind the link but it seems like a good deal.....cheap and free keychain light......

As far as covering the lens to make it red, has anyone ever used the "Taillight" repair tape?? If I recall correctly, it's a transparent red tape. Wonder if that would work??
