Help with freelining shad & shiners

Ive been fishing landlocked stripers here on beaver lake in N/W Ar since 94. Usally live baiting shad on ballons and planiers , Fish are coming to top now so not wanting to use weights. Wind catches ballons. See guys freelining up to 6 rods or more straight out the back a lot. Than planers out the side . Anybody have any info on this. Do you stager them in like longest out about 150ft, than125ft, 100 and so on. Are you forced to just turn twords longest and cant turn boat in the other direction without crossing up. Also can you make sharp turns.
Doing this slowing draging bait with troll moter. Thanks for any help
