Thumbs up Block or Cutty ?

Which would be your choice for an extended fishing trip ? -spring

Lets say you had 2 weeks to fish either Island . No you can't split 1 & 1 has to be 2 weeks at one .
Reasons- for choice .

How early in the spring? One BIG reason for block? If the fishing sucks you may just go insane on Cutty for 2 weeks. ALthough I could live there no problem... I'm simple.

IMO definitely go with Block if it's 2 weeks. Nice to be able to go out to a bar or for something to eat to mix things up.

I don't think I could handle two weeks in that B&B on Cutty.

From someone that spends a lot of time on Cutty, I would highly, highly recommend the Block option for several reasons.
Block is a hell va lot bigger with more options. You can have a vehicle
Cutty is tough, tough conditions. Lot of walking.
There are other options on block, ie booze and food and fishing supplies. (eels)
There is NOTHING on Cutty. You have to bring EVERYthing for a 2 week stay with you.
Last year, the fishing on Cutty sucked. Block Island was much, much better.
If the weather is bad on Cutty, it might as well be like a prison sentence. No where to go, nothing to do. No booze available. Big gamble.
I plan on getting back to Block more often this year.

I'd say Block. imo shore fishing gradually heats up at cutty with the temps, its to hit or miss and if you do get into'um its probably not going to be the fish cutty is known for. I've wetsuited block a 2-3 times with cow hunter fairly early in the spring although the water is still cold(especially on the incoming) the fish where there(size too). I know for a fact without the experience and wetsuit you may get the skunk. Also, Block is more protected by the wind giving you more options then cutty. I know either place can and has produced at any given time. If I remember correctly it was either 1st or 2nd week in June

I'm open time wise may or june [most productive ?]
This is half fantasy 1 week is more realistic ..but I'm buggin out and I don't mind the solitude .
I don't need a night life =fishing ,no alcohol=no hangovers [ok maybe a few beers ]
I was at Cutty last season ..Love the place .. But .. you may as well be at alcatraz.
As noted you need to bring everything so need to be selective.
I would try both places but would rather put some time into one .
Block may have more areas to fish ,not sure of spring in either island

CUTTY!

Seeing all you guys are recommending Block, I know where to go this season for a little peace and quiet.

It's not the bait
At the end of your line
It's the fishing hole

I think S-B.com members had a great year at Cutty last year.We saw pics of Tynan,MikeL,Throwing Timber as well as their humble host Redlite all holding cows. All this and it was a slow year, what if this is a better year?
That being said,I'll take the Block.

Me also Mike. Now that I am retired and cancer free (at least for the present time) I am strong enough to do the Block again. I plan on several shore trips. Just a little too far for my boat.

No boat, back in the suds.

I'd go to Montauk and save Cutty or Block for the fall.

definately block. 2 weeks would feel like 2 years on cutty in the spring - nothing is really open yet, not that there's much there even during the summer. ifthe fishing isn't absolutely insane, you'll probably go crazy out there. block offers much more fishing diversity, as well as beaches, restraunts, coffee shops and bars - and deer ass if you're into that kind of thing .
