New Personal Best
Started 2 weeks of vacation today and it sure started well.
Loaded up with bait early, but fishing was slow most of the day.
I stayed out and later it really picked up. It was fish after fish. and I lost count. Put a 22 pounder in the box for the grill and to give some away. It was getting late and i was thinking of heading in then. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ off went the reel. It felt heavier than others I caught, but it was coming right in. I thought maybe it was small but fouled, but no... she looked in my eye and hit the gas ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ again but this time she took a crap load of line and fought very hard. Finally she tired and I brought her to the side and reached for her jaw. The mouth was enormous. I grabbed her tight and pulled her over the rail. I layed her on the deck and put the fish tape under her. The tape is 45" long and it was up past her tail about an inch and a couple of inches short of her snout. I figure about 48" My gripper weigher thing read 38 pounds. I was alone so I could only take pics on the deck. Did that quick and slipped her back into the sea. Called my buddys who said I was nuts for releasing her, but maybe giving her back to the fish gods will bring me even larger.... Got 2 more weeks to fish fish fish....

Nice one Van. Heard you on the radio when I was up the N. River fishing.
Looks like you'll be the first person to actually register a fish on the C&R Derby. I heard no one participated last year.
