XYZ...IF you buy the license from DMF at MSBA Expo and pay with cash or check there is no service fee. If you pay with a card DMF will just assist you in using their computer to buy online and you will pay the service fee. Bring your checkbook and save the price of a coffee.

Joe - you can get on online or if your state borders Mass, RI or NH (not sure of ME) your saltwater license will work in Mass. If you are further away you'll need to get one online.

John,
According to the sticky thread about the licenses MA and RI will not work together. It will be nice when everyone gets on the same page with this thing.

Taken off the R.I. DEM website:

Where does the license apply?
RI waters: RI's recreational fishing license applies in all of RI's marine waters, which begin at the inland edge of all tidal water areas and extend seaward out to three miles. The defined boundaries separating RI's freshwaters and saltwaters can be found in section 2.6 of DEM's Freshwater and Anadromous Fishing Regulations.
Federal waters: The RI license also applies in all offshore federal waters, which extend seaward from the seaward edge of all state waters.
Other state waters: The RI license also applies in the state waters of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York, as well as in the waters of all other states that honor RI's license (a list of all other states will be provided here as soon as information on those states is collected).

Taken off the Mass. DMF website:

Who needs the MA Recreational Saltwater Fishing Permit?
In order to fish recreationally for finfish in Massachusetts marine waters, saltwater fishermen must have:
* A MA Recreational Saltwater Fishing permit, or
* A recreational saltwater fishing permit from a state that has a reciprocity agreement with Massachusetts. As of January 1, 2011, Massachusetts has reciprocity agreements with:
New Hampshire

good question, as I was wondering myself....
maybe the Mass site is not up to speed yet or the RI site got ahead of itself. who knows
I will be going to the MSBA show, and I heard the Division of marine fisheries will be there. I will ask them.
Also, Patrick said they'd be selling the licenses, and there is no fee if you pay cash or check.
Bigfish, I suggest you go to the show and get it there, it would be nice to see you there. Maybe John will have his lounge setup.

Keeper, the fine won't matter - what will is that they'll probably confiscate your rod and reel.
Of course, you could always use someone else's rod!
