Yes. Such a loss. I think of Steve all the time when out there. Sometimes it seems that each cast is reaching out to touch something we both loved, both shared, and it feels like he is right there still.

That might be one of the most beautiful sentiments I have ever read George. Very touching.

Just thinking of him today, didn't realize the date. Miss him and his insight. He had a gift for detail and another gift to relate it.

I did not follow S-B for some time but a little over 2 yrs. ago I started daily visits especially in the plug building forum. I remember Numby's post that Steve had passed. From what I had read he seemed like one hell of a guy, and after reading many of his posts I see why.

it is my belief that we are not just these bodies
that we inhabit.....

they are merely vehicles for our souls to temporarily reside in
to have physical contact with the earth for one sojurn of life.

Although we may miss a persons physical presense
hearing their voice and seeing their artistry
i believe they have just changed to a different plane of existence.

At some point in time the circle of life will re unite us with a
person's spirit and they are indeed present just in a different
form.

Now you may argue that no one will know this until
they make the journey themselves which is quite true but
it will provide you a sense of peace to continue on in happiness.

I remember how much he loved to discuss plugs and his collection... the classic plug strings where he and several other plugaholics would post pics of classic old plugs are great to look thru...

I was looking forward to meeting him at a plugfest... I wish I could have fished with him... I hope his family is doing fine... I'm sure they miss him every day..

He spoke often about his brother, who was killed in nam, and how
he felt his close presence of after his death. He believed deeply in

I know..i think about several sb'ers who have moved on. The other day I was cleaning up some gear and came across a brown paper bag...opened it up and it had 4 or 5 Habs needle plugs still in the plastic.and several boxes of VMC fluke hooks he obtained for me... gets you thinking.

I didn't know Flap ( as I have said before) as well as some of you... I only knew him from our conversations at plugfest... I enjoyed talking about the "old days" of striper fishing with him even if it ment going home with a cramped and stiff neck.. and a hoar voice from yelling up two feet..sometimes even when you are not directly thinking of some one.. you still think about them... last week I turned a few batches of plugs... out of the blue.. the last ones I decided to turn that night were Blue streaks... something I havent turned in two years... I gave the last one that I had turned to Flap at the last plugfest I saw him at...it was painted my take on a brown bomber.. tail weighted made from mahagony...It reminded me of the big guy that I had to litteraly look up to..

after truning the last one... I walked over to the bench where I keep my patterns and copies of magazines that have articles I deem important to revisit and found the one about Steve... I cut out the picture of him standing with the fish... and walked over and pinned it to a cork board on the far wall with pictures of Habs... My Dad and other meaningfull articles and pictures... just funny how the mind works...

The big guy liked his trout fishing as well. I miss his once a week visits. Every Wednesday he'd swing into the shop to find where the latest stocking had been.

Great pic there. I happen to be there with salt and Flap that beautiful day in my tin boat. We sat on the flats
and had lunch and shot the breeze. Great memory at one of mine and Steves favorite areas. Thanks for the memory. Super nice guy. P

There has been a few times while fishing one of the creeks where I get the feeling Steve is nearby or about to walk out to me.
He had a real passion for our sport.

Steve was funny ... I miss his post about F-Mob .. His post about stopping to shop at Walmart in Brockton was funny as bastagde .. I felt some what directed at me . You could always find him at "Plugfest" .. Literally head above the crowd .. Steve was a good egg ... very dry sense of humor ..

wow....2 years already. miss seeing him at the shows as he and george were sure to show up. good guy to say the least. loved talking plugs with him . i cherish the old gibbs pencil he gave me. stunning in neoprene was an original.

In the spring of 2008 I was fly fishing a creek in Sandwich with my wife’s brother in law. My brother in law picked up his first bass of the season that evening and very tall plug guy was kind enough to take our picture. My brother in law died within the year. Later I figured out the man who took our picture was Flaptail. I’d seen him before take some nice fish in that area.

As far as plug knowledge in our area many used Steve to get the story behind the story .. He also knew how everything fished .

Always had the story, the names, and history behind all things striper... I could never figure out why so many good striper fishermen were from the Worcester area, until Steve posted much of the who's and whys. Only had a few brief conversations with him at Plugfests. My loss for not getting to know him better. Despite his physical stature, wealth of knowledge, and his considerable fishing accomplishments, he was quite unassuming. In an age of self proclaimed internet sharpies, Steve defined the other end of the spectrum. That would be called Class.... My thoughts to his family and friends, especially Dave, Captain Cupcake.

Z. I think a series on guys like Steve would be well received.
