Are back after many years off. Many in different areas of the upper Narr. Bay. Took these today, they were getting hammered by Skippys.

I remember October of 2008 in the bay - there were billions being hammered by blues and bass as far as I could see from Quonset to hope to the Jtown bridge. Everywhere were blitzing fish. I was in 3-5 ft of water and all you saw was blue fish. You didnt need to cast, just put your plug in the water and jiggle, fish on in seconds. Also landed some bass. One of the most amazing days I have ever seen. I got on the water @ 2pm and had fish constantly until 8pm. Only boat around. That was the last time I saw peanuts in any quantity. Glad they're back

Great shots. Looks like they have crystal flash glued to their sides. Never saw them that irridescent.

Yeah, I didn't think they were peanuts (couldn't tell) until i got the pics back on the computer. They were multi rainbow colored and translucent.

I stumbled onto a school of skipjack tuna in Buzzards Bay near Cleaveland's ledge some 15-20 years ago. The guy with me got one about #10. Incredibly powerful fish. Stronger than an albie I'd say.

just spent a few hours with one of my twin daughters in a kayak right in the middle of absolute mayhem with little blues destroying these little peanuts in the Sakonnet for as far as we could see ....quite a sight and experience for her.....caught more than her share.....and loaded me up with fluke bait while having quite a time...didn't see anything larger on them....the water was thick with both tiny blues and bait

I hit a day with a buddy some years back when there was a continuous school of peanuts about 25 ft wide and as far up and down the beach as we could see- possibly 2 or more miles. When the tide came in, so did the blues and bass. Best blitz I'd ever been in, we caught fish on almost every cast for over three hours.
It's so good to see that there's actually bunker left to spawn, hope they can replenish themselves. Game fish have been looking tubular the past few years.....

I'm no scientist, but I think all this heat had something to do with it, or at least helped in more than one way.... seems to relate with former peanut-blooms too....they also look fairly large for early August, good signs all around. All this heat has got to have them feeding well....could there be a rebound on it's way???

About 3 years ago peanuts were in crazy thick in mackeral cove, every night it would turn on around the same time. For about a week straight blues and bass on them thick. chasing them up on shore. ONly two guys there for 5 nights straight. Then didnt see them anywhere for 3 seasons. Glad to hear they are back.

Back in '03 there were peanuts from the NR down to PJ light. Awesome blitz fishing for a month. Hasn't been like that since, though...

Just an observation - not sure if true or not - but with the increase in adult pogies in the bay there was a decrease in the Peanuts. Now a decrease in the adults brings a return of the 'Nuts. Purely anecdotal but anyone have thoughts?

There is a trait in all of nature that promotes the survival and expansion of the species. It very well may be that the adult pogies swim in there own group to better protect themselves from predators that the peanuts would attract. You can also expand this to say that the adult pogies are best to protect their young if they don't swim separate.
As an aside man has not evolved ethically but only find better ways to do eash other in including nature.

I've never found a correlation between adult and peanut bunker abundance. When i first started surf fishing in the 1970s peanuts and adults were both abundant. Then the peanuts just dissapeared for 15 years or so but adult menhaden were still present. I was out last evening and the peanuts were just about everywhere - but not all peanuts had game fish in the vicinity. This spring I saw more adult menhaden in my local waters than the past 20 years. Enjoy it while we have it because next season may be completely different - that's what I love about surfcasting - every year changes.
