Sweet score! Habs

So the plugs I bought came in, still trying to figure out if they're jrs or not.

3oz night n gales, one all yellow and the other squid pattern.

Paid $6 each off eBay.

Either way they will be fished.

Did Jr make any of those? I'd wager they're original.

You got an incredible deal.

George I own a few and just can't seem to find an application for them where they will out fish a regular Habs needle, Danny, darter or a buck tail. Cool novelty plug and cast a mile but I have always done well with other plugs. I know they were designed primarily for windy rough water conditions... Who am I kidding just give me a soft cooler and a dozen eels.

I use the medium sized N'nGs. Love them on dark nights. Use the plug body as a handle when releasing fish. Never have to put a light on .

I have yet to catch a fish on one. I had it in my bag last week on block and the squid were running, if there was ever a good time to throw it that was it, but it was too calm most of the time or the water too shallow. I may have gotten a few blues on them but never any bass. It does cast like a rocket that is for sure. My last remaining habs Sr.

Everything is better on the rocks.

Chris did you pay $6 or $9.75 each? From the Taunton guy on Ebay? He just sold the same 2 plugs a few days ago. Seems like he has a pretty big bag of Hab's stuff.

5.99 each, same person, it's actually a woman selling tons of gear, I scored some lex lure for 4.50 each and some rm smith giants for 10 each.

She sells all random stuff fishing gear, woman's clothes, make up, etc. she does have some good plugs from time to time.

Junior did make some of these and in those colors, the first year he hit the market. That very first run was not signed, I have a couple of pencils left from that run. I remember talking to Mrs. Habs about the fact that people might try to sell them as Srs and she said a few other people had raised similar concerns. Since that run, he signed them all. I also remember that a fair number of that first run had little blemishes on them while John Jr. got used to the equipment. That yellow one has one of those little blips near the tail. When Sr. was still alive, he told me in almost these exact words, "Dave, if you're going to sell plugs do it right. Anything that has a blemish or a little hair in the finish, hold it back, you want to be known for quality. Take those $#@&'d ones and fish them yourself or give them to friends. It will be worth it in the long run."

I'm guessing that he adhered to those same standards, and for that reason, I'd guess they are Jrs.

But, who knows?

-Dave

Nice score either way. Not a big fan of that plug personally, haven't found an application. Designed for high wind and big seas, not my favorite conditions. I usually plan my nights out to avoid those type of nights. I'll give them a shot with the tail at some deeper spots next year.

You're right but I remember his first few had Jr. stamped on the packages also, before he signed the plugs themselves. The package in the photo doesn't have the Jr. stamping.
Either way, they are great plugs and I bet Chris fishes them. I fish my Habs needles, they catch. Good buy Chris

I have some John gave me pre-production on the Block one Sunday morning waiting for the ferry. I cannot bring myself to fish anything he made. Just holding on to them for I don't know what.

I think it's different when the builder personally gives em to you, they mean more and have unmatched value.

You are right Chris. Plus John was a good friend. I have some pre-production needles from the late 80s that I treasure. They look nothing like what he ultimately built.

I don't remember that, although I'm sure you're right. And yea, it's a killer score... hell, two Red Fins for that money would be a good score!!
