Looking for an old counter top
Probably a long shot but I'm looking for a large counter top surface.
Possibly someone's done a kitchen or bath remodel.
Preferably with old fashion Formica surface.
Or if someone knows where to buy a very large sheet of Formica or similar material a an inexpensive cost and I can glue it down on a substrate.
Making a figerglass layup table.
Old countertops make a great perfectly flat smooth surface to apply a coat of wax and lay up glass ( coat of wax wax acts as a release).
Looking for something 4x8 or 5x10 would be better.

4x8 is a big countertop to try and find.
you may consider a sheet of duraclad/melamine
the depot or lowes have 4x8 sheets of white melamine 3/4" thick right on the rack for not much more than I pay from a wholesaler.
that would do the same thing, it is basically low pressure laminate as opposed to high pressure laminate.
wax it up good though and maybe finish off the edges with something.
I just got an email today from a supplier that has laminate pretty cheap a buck a sq ft plus tax and shipping, but it would cost about twice than the melamine for a 5x12
if you are going to do a lot of it, then make it so it lasts

I think typical counter top 30-36 inches wide ?
Correct ?
I could to 3 long lengths, build a 2x4 subframe, mount on top of a bench or saw horses & repair seam where 2 lengths meet.
Hoping to find someone demoing a kitchen or similar.
Old 1960-80s Formica kitchen counter tops work great for glassing surface.

typical countertops are 25" deep and if it's a breakfast bar top, should be 36" deep
I think the melamine would work, about 40 bucks for a 4x8 sheet
check salvage places
or like beetle said, bargain outlet

Ron,
What I have are short pieces from desks and counters, but none match and some have contoured backsplash molded to them, so wouldn't work to splice together. Check out WilsonArt in Reading. I have picked up the sheets from them to repair counters. Spray adhesive to both sides. Used up last of a sheet on my lathe bench. Be sure you check out the finish as many are matte vs gloss that you want. They don't take cash or deal with the public. Trades only. You can figure that out.

ronnie, i am taking a old counter top out of my camp in the next few weeks...if you want to come get it you can have it. i can measure this week and let you know if you want? its not huge tho...

I will be doing a kitchen redo in hull in about a week there are 2 good size counters if you want them ?im also taking cabinets down that would be nice for a shop or garage if anyone interested let me know all white formica
