Buying a new boat, Alumnacraft ?s
Hi all. Kind of thinking about getting a new 145cs fisherman. 14' 10" with console and 25hp merc. My youngest gradguates this year, no more child support, YEEHAA! So a present to myself, my wife says go ahead buy it. Ya the 2nd one, I did better.
Talked to a salesman already. Questions. Is it like buying a car, they give you a price but you can talk them down? Never have bought a new one before. I know it is not a big boat but it is to me. So I'm just looking into in now. Looking for any info either way. I know this is the size I want. Will be selling my old 14' starcraft w/ 15hp. So I like the size and it works for me.
So comments, words of encouragement or not. Just looking for more info. I know used would probably be better but, I don't know. Thanks, Scott

What is a new boat the same size going to give you that your current one doesn't ? I was shocked at the cost of new aluminum boats at the boat show.
You can negotiate the price of anything.
Why not just re power, if you want more horses?

If they won't budge on the price beat them up for some goodies like fishfinder/GPS safety gear, anchor set up, dock lines, fenders etc....

THe boat I have now is under power and I really would not want to put anything bigger on it, the transom is a little lower. This new one is wider and deeper V, electric start, it is alot nicer. I here ya about the price. I know I could get something a lot bigger used. Don't want or need anthing bigger.
Ya I'm thinking to try and get something out of him.
Like I said still thinking about it and looking into how much it will really cost me in the end. In another month there will be a lot more used boats out there I can look at. I do appreciate the comments.

Buying used is tough in my opinion. If you don't know the seller personally, it's a crapshoot.....
Having had a few money-pits already, I think I know how you feel. I too am in the market for something...and thinking of going new. I have a 13' dory pull-start, and it's a great little boat....but my back isn't what it used to be //Sick of pulling the cord and want something bigger. There's no doubt you can negotiate the cost. It's a luxury item.
If you can afford it, which it sounds like she said you can ...the only thing you may want to think about is not limiting yourself to 14'. If she gave you the green-light, go a little bigger. Once you're out of the bay-areas, the ocean tends to bully the smaller boats. Just my 02 cents

I did it, bit the bullet. Got the Alumnacraft 145cs w/ a 25 merc 4 stroke and had a Minnkota 55# Riptide put on it. Will pick it up around the 17th. Got a 500 dollar rebate also. The price was do able. Got an older 14 ft Starcraft ready to go I have to get rid of. Thanks again guys for the input. Scott
