another good guy lost....

a good friend of mine - lifelong Mystic CT resident and lobsterman Mark Grabherr died last weekend after a recurrence of lymphoma. At one time he fished 400 lobster traps in waters off Fishers Island, dug oysters and clams, and always kept an eye on the striped bass in the area. He was always fun and interesting to talk to, and will be missed all who knew him. He was 49 years old

A burial at sea with close friends was his final wish- He'll go back in the water that he loved.

thanks to all for your good wi
shes

yesterday was the day we (all his buddies) put Mark back in the water. a sad and touching moment as we said our final goodbye.... the seagulls escorted us back to the dock and we started in telling stories. by dinner, more folks started to show up at the dock where we gathered. food and drinks, and some great people.

after dark, we started catching squid off the docks under the lights- everybody got in on the act. from 8 year olds to senior citizens- it was a bail job like I haven't seen in years.

I couldn't think of a more fitting send off for a guy who loved fishing, food and friends.

I can only hope when my time comes, I get the same......
