Came into casting range maybe twice in 4 hours from shore y'day. Had a good shot at them for maybe 45 seconds. lol Lots and lots of bait from 1/2 to 3" just like last year. Will go back later this week after the blow. Only one that I know of was caught from the rocks.
Kept a single bonito last season. Best tasting fish I've ever caught.

I have better luck with Mega Bait jigs than anything else, green mackerel color. 2 years ago, I stocked up on half-ounce size, can't find them this year, 3/4 ounce is smallest I see. On the backside of Fishers Island where I am, that outfishes everything else - other jigs, flies, soft plastics.
I'm also doing well in my neck of the woods this season.

Got into the little speedsters today. They were clobbering the Rebel Jumpin' Minnow. Hats off to Dangles for sending me in the right direction.

Glad I went the right direction this time, one time I don't mind burning fuel. Looking at cows doesn't hurt either!

Almost
5 hours flogging between two of us got one bone from the rocks. Only 3 pods the whole morning came within range. I had 4 good casts into a large pod that came up for over a minute 20 yards in front of me and they didn't want what I was throwing. The other guy got one on the 2nd cast into the same pod. By the time I changed up they were out of range and stayed there. The other two pods that came through earlier were small and only stayed up less than 30 seconds total I'd say.
From shore the bait is very thick but the fish aren't, yet - at least where I'm going.

Left Newport Sunday around 530am bait so thick the birds were sitting in them grabbing bait.. headed to PJ tons of birds around the 1st fish trap small school of schoolies waited for the bite to turn on nothing from there searched the shore line until i got to horseneck beach again fields of bait (tiny like fry bunker) Saw one huge blitz of Bonita for us the key was drifting with the bait and and having the boat in front of the birds and blind casting small Green DD seemed to do better but caught several on pink and green Albie snax's the fish weren't selective .. 3 of us boated easily 20 of them one guy was a 1st timer it was slow and steady. I only caught 2 last year 1st time these seemed bigger ? was going out today but had no takers so I slept in (sad i know)
