How many switches for a 20'CC?

Currently have eight switch panel. Three are accessory switches. What else could I need open switches for? Not getting radar. Vhf, stereo and GPS/FF electronics I turn on at the units.

Current layout;

Aft bilge, Livewell/washdown, Nav/off/anchor. Horn

Cockpit light, ACC, ACC, ACC


I might consider putting the compass light on its own switch. Any other suggestions?
In the distant past I was known to have put a dimmer on running lights... I used to mess with other race boats at night by turning my running lights down and make them think I was going faster than they were... head games.

Wash down pump,bilge pump,baitvwell pump, deck lights, my compass light is on its own switch, console lights, trim tabs if you have them..

I have a overhead light mounted on the t-top .pointed directly down that lights up from the t top back to the outboard . great when you need it .wouldn,t recommend it to get a snarl out when eeling ><>,

I suggest as many as you have now with 2 extra if any fail then you just move the wires to the good switch easy if if on the Water , And do your self a favor get back lit switches you'll thank yourself I wish I had them
but my panel is a nightmare to remove and replace even 1 switch

going to see if I can put my compass light on a another switch never thought of it ! its always been to bright and i cover it anyway . comes on with my nav lights another project ! just when I thought i was Done LOL

Pull the wire that feeds the gage lights that come on with the key and run a jumper wire to one of the switches,,, comes in handy for night runs/fishin.....

The more I learn, the easier it seem to order a prelabeled switch panel that can be installed over cut out hole in dash. I will use starboard to replace the fake wood photograph material and do the cut outs myself. Still thinking this is for next off season, but you never know. I am accumulating parts and materials.

And yes, the compass light needs its own switch for that very reason.... It is really only a back up to my electronics the majority of the time. (also have to keep metal objects in the glovebox underneath away from it...)

I took the bulb out of the compass and painted with fingernail polish,,, not perfect but helps...
more shades than could ever want.... ;-)

Ross how many batteries do you use and do you have or plan to add an onboard battery charger?

Also, the power cable for transducers and radars has a ton of 14awg tinned wire in it. I used some of that for runs where there's high traffic.
