I would be happy to give it to you for free. What kind of wood you want? You live so far away though. Conn. right? I think the saw mill in RI is a lot closer. Maybe someone closer will respond, if not I can help you out if need be.

Find a custom cabinet shop near you, there is a lot of scrap that is 10" and under that gets thrown out, It might cost you a 6 pack though.

You can buy clear pine at most real lumberyards up to 2" thick (called8/4......eight quarter). There also should be someplace reasonably close to you that sells cabinet grade hardwoods (check the phonebook) and they will have a big selection. Some of them will machine it to dimension for you for a moderate extra cost.

If you can change your location from "some where on the water" to the town you live in someone may know of a place near you that has it.

Red Cedar seems easy to find on the north shore, most lumber yards carry it. I've recently found Mahogany ballusters at a place in Salem that I've been using and they work well.

Yankee Lumber on rte 1 in Rowley has a good selection of different woods but they are a bit pricey and I'm a bit Cheap (did I say cheap....I meant thrifty)

also check any fence companies... sometimes they will have scraps of Cedar and mahogany free for the taking....
