Saw this last night on HBO. Sean Penn played Harvey Milk a San Francisco City Councilor(Supervisor) in the late 70's. I was only a kid when this story was out so it was a total education for me. The biggest thing that struck me was how Dan White only got 7 1/2 years with an early release after 5 years for good behavior! This guy shot in cold blood the Mayor and Harvey Milk and because of the stigma in those times being what it was people were actually behind him and thought he should have been acquited! Sad. Anyone else see this movie? I'm not looking to start a political thread here but i thought the movie was pretty good from an historical standpoint. I do have to say though I kinda wish it was a woman supervisor they did the movie about as it would have made some of the scenes a little easier to watch! Not that there's anything wrong with that.
MILK was a great film...Penn is one of the premier actors of his day. That was a sad story.
Some more good Penn films..
Falcon & the Snowman
At Close Range
can't forget Mystic River
