Grew up at the track, started going in'79, my dad took pictures for Stock Car Racing magazine and i'd always go with him.Hardcore fans would die if they saw some of the stuff i've collected over the years, signs for races from tracks that no longer exsist, many driver autographs who have passed on (Bonnett, Allison,Earnhardt, Evans....).When I started with it there were only 3 races televised but as times change I believe that it has, like so many other things, sold out.I may watch a half dozen races but it's not the same, now it's just big bussiness and everyone seems to be the official this or that of NASCAR, and this year Toyota is getting into the truck division , soon they will be in the cars too, i'm sure.I'm glad I had the years at the tracks because I saw the BEST years. johnny "the Ratt Boy"

thats a great general stereotype.

how about non-polluting, non-motorized, pure sailing with no big fanfare.

but thats just my opinion and like balls, most guys have em'

I'd rather watch NASCAR than the Cup..

I do like it when the winner does some donuts for the crowd:

you know I have a lot of respect for the drivers crew and strategy in that sport butit ends right there.

is the americas cup tryinfg to sell you a ticket so they can afford to offer purses, and other assorted trash, etc. ?

Nope.

there is a big difference and it is the persom who doesn't understand the whole picture whose is a waste.

some people just don't get it.

fortunately I still believe that car racing is a FAR greater waste of money than fishing or sailing. matter of fact even fishing, when one slogs out on the briny in there big gas guzzler, is a waste.

stick with the facts. ya the americas cup is hard for a simple mind to comprehend but it is light years cleaner for the enviroment then car racing.

remember it is the people involved in sailboat racing you dislike.

i just have a problem with the wastefulness of nascar and really could care less about bubba and his busch light.
darwinism will take care of his heart

ok, let's get into a big pissing and mudslinging contest and completely avoid the important, sunstantiated facts that actually PROVE something.

oh ya, you guys are from Rhody. I remember what that can be like.........

Not a nascar fan... but it is popular... as they say, opinions are like A-holes; everyone's got one, and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks..

If ya like it ya like it, I'm just not into cars enough to watch it or care..

The cup on the other hand I do enjoy... but I am from newport, even if I was a bit young to watch it back then, we went to Freemantle for the 87 finals...

I love sailing, its the most relaxing thing out there.. There is no argument that it is enviromentally friendly, but I just have problems with the money end of it... I'd love to see that money go to charity... true racing is about tactics, helmsmanship, and good sportsmanship. Its all there at the americas cup, but in the end its about whoever has the most $$ or the latest designs... remember the whole catamaran fiasco?? I mean really, please....
If it were up to me I'd have the Cup raced in smaller onedesigns.. so that both playing fields were even and let the best team win. That is what i was trying to say...

_
_ Snoopp Dogg says....

THA AMERICA'S CUP IS, know what I'm sayin'? ..
The America's Cup is da pinnacle of world sailing 'n da oldest continually competed fo' trophy in sport." It wuz first raced fo' in 1851 over a course that took a fleet of 17 boats around Britain's Isle of Wight, know what I'm sayin'? The America, a specially built race yacht from New York, won da race 'n gave its name da trophy, which at da time wuz valued at 100 Guineas."

The trophy wuz donated da New York Yacht Club wit a Deed of Gift that decreed that any yacht club from around da world could challenge fo' da America's Cup 'n if they won da competition they would then become da Cup's new trustees." Over da following 132 years 25 challengers tried 'n failed beat da Defender in a match race competition, know what I'm sayin'? The New York Yacht Club's tenure became da longest winning streak in sporting history, know what I'm sayin'?

Aristocrats, military fools, entrepreneurs, merchants, engineers, media moguls, financiers, n' #^&#^&#^&#^&. .. as challengers izzall failed beat da Americans until da scientific 'n design-led 'hold-up' took place 'n put da Cup in da hands of da first Challenger, an Australian, that managed consistently beat da Defender."

The America's Cup moved da southern hemisphere fo' a four-year sejourne before da Americans, this time as da Challenger, won that shiznit back." In 1995 da Challenger won again da America's Cup travelled South again but this time New Zealand, know what I'm sayin'? Here that shiznit stayed fo' eight years until da Swiss Alinghi Team beat da Defender 'n brought da America's Cup 'n da event Europe." To be competed fo' in European waters over da next fours years da America's Cup is today on da brink of another new chapter in its phenomenal history, know what I'm sayin'?

The America's Cup is based on da Deed Of Gift, a 2 pages Gentleman's agreement that establishes da fundamental rules of da event n' #^&#^&#^&#^&. It specifies that da owner of da Cup should reach agreement wit Challengers on how da race will be organised." These rules are put together in a Protocol."

Eben, I agree about the $$ and technology but it's part of the support I guess...

My biggest PetPeeve is the team switching; You should be limited to sailing for your home country, like the olympics; Last year the swiss team only had two swiss ,members, and one was the owner!!!

But I'm not a rag boater anyways, give me engines almost any day

Beachwalker, how come your opinion is always the ONLY right one, even though you preach "seek first to understand" , and "RESPECT" blah blah balh , and then you have to attack anybody who disagrees as "too simple" and spew STEREOTYPES that you seem to hate hearing yourself?

My reply was based upon your lack of respect for Jenn and and your stereotyping of race fans as ignorant (I know you didn't say that, but thats what you meant). I have read you're into sailing, so gave you a taste of your own medicine wit a tongue-in-cheek answer, and it looks like you can't handle it.

Then you apply more STEREOTYPES of Bubba and his Busch light (you say you don't hate the fans, its the wastefullness, BUT then follow that up by saying they are too stupid to survive, indicating your contempt for the fans).

You cry about mudslinging, but I think thats the pot calling the kettle black.

Oh yeah, I'm not a race fan OR a sailing fan, and I dont care to debate this with you. I just find your condescending attitude offensive.

Dude,
shove it up your "I don't like Beachwalker" cakehole.

Jenn asked why. I told her why. You didn't like it and made some off base criticism of sailing and are now trying to tell me it is my fault. I answered the question and you didn't like it

Get your facts straight before you sling crap like that my way.

and speaking of facts:

our assumptions make you incorrect

1. My statement concerning Busch Lite and Darwinism were directed towards Bubbas failing nealth due to excessive, habitual alcohol consumption

2. No one was crying

obviously Toonoc has a hard one for Beachwalker.

I look forward to listening to your efforts in the future

first of all thank you for the support toonoc . second I never asked WHY beachwalker. and third why are we fighting over something so stupid???

I just wanted to start a friendly conversation with any other race fans. Obviously I didnt find them here, no big deal. There are hundreds of thousands of people that attend these races WEEKLY. and many more that watch at home. I dont feel alone with those kinds of numbers!

Well Jenn I can say I am sorry for answering the question "am I the only Nascar fan out there"

Next time I'll think twice before submitting my "honest" opinion.

Toonoc might have given you support but he's a wanker in my eyes and others considering the amont of Pm's I received after my comments. The trth often causes offense so I wasn't surprised that he reacted the way he did.

I sincerely doubt I would berate him for one of his favorite hobbies when he was commenting on his dislike for another.

I don't pretend well and never will.

That is not always the most popular technique in communications.
I work around a bunch of race fans, spent a week in Daytona around a bunch of race fans and personally think that they generally are a pretty ignorant bunch

now please remember. My defintion of ignorance is "not knowing ". That is very different from being stupid as many will probably assume my statement means.

Winter has nothing to do with it. I never said you were any of those things. How could I ? I don't even know you.

I was asking was if there WERE any other fans!!! What i didnt ask was "who hates nascar and why". Yes everyone is entitled to their opinion but sometimes a little discretion needs to be excersized. (thats my opinion I guess) hey guess what...I cant stand football, but did you see me trashing everyone posting about the superbowl??? NO!

quite frankly I think we should make this water under the bridge because I dont have the energy or will to argue over something so stooopid.
