Cool that's a sad bit of News

he was Quite enjoyable to watch

but still....i have to say that chain smoking cigarettes,
drinking coffee non stop and sleep deprivation not to
mention the "ultimate stress" of navigating the bearing sea
and living to tell about it.... and all the Alcohol afterward's

wasn't the Healthiest way to live....
and it "appears" to have shortened his life considerably....
but hey, he went out as
a Crab fisherman and was proud of it.

Rest in Peace Phil......... you earned it.

Ditto.

It seems that he raised some real good kids. I hope they follow in his footsteps.

Wow, that sucks. He had some underlying conditions though. It must be tough on his sons. Thought and Prayers indeed.

Very sad news. Redbulls, stress and smokes, not the best lifestyle for sure. He spent his life doing what he loved and sharing it with his boys. RIP Phil

He will be missed. A colorful captain of a TV series showing the stress he lived with. I think he stated that coronary illness was in his family after he passed the blod clot during the filming of the series. RIP Phil.

He was one of my favorites... at least he did what he wanted right to the end.. not laying in a hospital bed for months or years..... and IMHO.. it's all any one of us can ask for..my thoughts go out to his boys..

A good run is better than a bad stand!

Sad news about Phil - condolences to his family and crew

He always reminded me a lot of some of the commercial guys I knew (and drank with) who are now gone

Rest easy, Cap

Now Fiddler's Green is a place I've heard tell
Where the fishermen go if they don't go to hell
Where the weather is fair and the dolphins do play
And the cold coast of Greenland is far, far away

Wrap me up in me oilskin and blankets
No more on the docks I'll be seen
Just tell me old shipmates, I'm taking a trip mates
And I'll see you someday on Fiddlers Green

"There is no royal road to this heavy surf-fishing. With all the appliances for comfort experience can suggest, there is a certain amount of hard work to be done and exposure to be bourne as a part of the price of success." From "Striped Bass," Scribner's Magazine, 1881.
