Lamiglas question - Striper Talk Striped Bass Fishing, Surfcasting, Boating

I'm thinking of a new rod this winter. I've already got three surf rods, a spinning and two conventionals. The two conventionals are fast action blanks, not pool sticks but stiff. I'm use to throwing these rods, and once i figured out how to load them they cast great. However i'm thinking lamiglas for the next stick. I envision the rod to be used for chunking and tossing large rigged eels short distances into the suds. I don't sand spike. I wade with a surf bag full of cut pogy and stand there, at times like an idiot, with the rod in my hand. So the rod has to be fairly light.
What do you think about the GSB 120 1M, or the GSB 132 1M?
I've felt the Ron Arra 1322 and the 1205, and these both feel too light for what i want to use them for--and also more $$$

I wouldn't chunk with the Arra 1322 but I think you could with the 1205.

I had the 132 1M and altho Lami rates the blank for 4-12 oz, I found that it really didn't like to throw much over 5.

The 120 1M feels a little stiffer to me than its 11' brother. But I have 2 and one is stiffer than the other---there is more variation from blank to blank in the GSB series than in the XRA.

Having both the 1205 and the 120 1M---which would be my 2 finalists---I find them similar in what they can effectively throw, but I'll concede that you can go beyond the comfort zone without worrying on the GSB rods. It's a lower modulus graphite and can take more abuse. Altho I've never heard of anyone who ever broke a 1205.

I think the 120 1M is the blank for me. I think it'll go well with my breakaway rods. But the big question is..................DO I REALLY NEED ONE MORE ROD??????????????????????

the ssb1363m cut to 10'6" has been an killer chunkin rod for me, nice n light.

Goose that would be four surf rods five or so boat rods and a good bunch of lighter and beater rods. My surf rods are breakaway blanks and tend to be fast action. I was looking for a softer rod that will cast some weight, and maybe load easier than my currents conventionals. Your advice sounds worth looking into. Where would i get the blank?

mike cc could probably get it for you. If you could live with heavier E-glass instead of S-glass, he usually has plenty of sb 121 3M blanks in stock. He could build that full length and you'd get something very similar to the 136 blank cut down to 10-6. Those glass rods are softer and load very easily for a lob cast. Plus they'll handle double the weight they're rated for.

I've got my dads old S-glass, the thing was a monster so i cut off some from the tip and now have a good light heaver. I kept his old 706 on it. He told me he bought the outfit in the early seventies somewhere in Narragansett. I didn't use the setup much this year. should I be worried about a blank thats twenty-eight years old? And also can those s-glass rods take a beating? man are they light. That 706, she ain't so light though. But I'm getting good feedback here. SIDE NOTE: In Rhody when we chunk fish a long cast is normally not effective. The fish are in the rocks. I think that is why a lot of guys fish with 9 Ft spinning rods with short butts and plenty of softness. We tend to fish weightless, or nearly so, simply let the chunk kind of roll around the rocks. This isn't always the case but there are many many spots in Newport and Jamestown and Narragansett where the bass are at the feet. Anyway I like 10' 6" I also like 10'. My two conventionals are these lenghts and my spinnings are 9 and 9'5"
So between S-glass or a regular graphite, for mostly chunking, what is the pick. I'm use to the feel of graphite in the surf, but again now that I hold my dads rod I'm amazed at the lightness.
I don't know about the sensitivity thing, and to be honest i don't think it matters much with a chunking rod.

I've done my homework and talked to some guys over here. I'm going with the GSB 120 1M.
This blank though isn't easy to find.
Hal Brown doesn't carry it; Red Top doesn't have it--I have some store credit at Red Top on a return--be careful with the 7000 narrow spool, my pinion gear jammed up into the spool. It seems a lot of people had this same thing happen, though abu says that they have solved it. Narrow spool 7000 it sounds like a braid casters dream, will have to wait and see.
