PC Hint
If you are going to buy a new PC, here is a low to medium suggestion
1. Non-Gamer ( Email, Letters, eBay, Surfing
WinXP Home, Pentium 1.8 or AMD equivalent, 256Megabyte of RAM, 30 to 40 Gig Hard Drive and a 32 Meg Video Card. CD ROM 48x or better and Integrated AC 97 Stereo on board is good for sound. 17 inch monitor minimum.
2. Gamer
WinXP Pro
Intel Pentium 2.66 GHz (minimum )
512 megs of RAM or better
AGP 128 or better Video Card - NOT the built in Video
40 - 80 Gig Hard Drive
CD-ROM CD-RW Combo
OR
CD-ROM DVD RW plus & Minus Combo
Integrated Stereo Sound - AC 97 type
OR
Creative Audigy Sound Card
Surround 5.1 speaker system
Buy the cheapest and you'll be disappointed forever.

I have a Dell 4400, Pentium 4, 1.6, 512 ram, 40 gig, XP Home, 64 mb video card w/ TV out, 48X CD- Burner, SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio, and a 17" moniter
Gee I guess I am near perfect to your spec. Newboater.
Mine is almost 2 years old and have had only one problem and not much of one. The CD- Burner stoped working after 8 months. I called Dell up on the phone the tec had me do a couple of things and over nighted me one. I had it fixed in less then 24 hours!
Dell has also made there case so user friendly!! Opens like a suit case and everything is so easy to get at. To replace the new CD Rom all I had to do is press to buttons and open casr, pull on to green platic clips and slid it out. Plug new one in slide back in till clips clicked close case and I was done total time 5 min.
I have now gotten to family members Dells and can't say anything wrong about them!! They are a few more $$ then some of the store bought ones but it just runs flawless all the time. I will never own anything else!!
Good luck ML!!!!
