about guides

GSB 120 1M is the blank i am going to use again thanks everyone for their advise...

Now i find myself in another delima.. guides.. i had an idea of what i wanted but now i'm freaking confused. I originally wanted NSG but now after hearing some people talk at a rod building shop... I'm thinking about the HVSG.

I'm going to make a spining rod but i'm wondering if 40mm is big enough?

nsg*s were more of a conventional style guide though they were made up to a size 40 sometimes a problem with line slap on cast with spinnining real as the guide sits kinda low on blank. The HVSG 40hh is a great first guide and the size isnt a problem. These were originally part or their tournament casting concept guides.they made 3 size first guides for different sized reels.(the 40hh--30h and the 25h)then you went to a 25m --20m and a 16L yes thats it 4 guides but it was for casting not getting fish back. The 16L(low) was still a very tall guide. The first time I used these back in the 80s I added a SVSG sic 16 to drop the line down to be inline with the tip. This was on a lami-BSB1363m and with a 704 penn would cast almost as well as a zziplex with a newell 235 on an overhead cast. The center of the reel was set up at 29.5 inches and the 40HH was 47.5 inchesfrom the face of the reel.I actually still have the original brochure for these and it gives the formula to set the up.I had to modify this a little as the shortest rod they were using was 12ft-8in.I was amazed. It was one of the first rods I did and I still have it in the rafters. Now most people go right from this hvsg 40mm to to 30-SVSG and down the rod with SVSG series guides.Recently I have been checking out the layout for the new concept series and might try setting one of these up to see if its as good as the claims for it are.
