No dump pickin'!! Then why the hell go! Dump picking is the greatest sport known to man. My Grandfather built a whole cottage from dump stuff, and then rented it!

Unhappy

I know! no more "shopping" at the dump..
big sign, but I don't care, if they are charging me for throwing my stuff in the pile... something else might have to jump back in!
Like legs from chairs and tables, gotta have some for practise!

Ya remember Mike Lincoln? He got a good yellin' for taking some stuff, seems anti-amierican, or something.

Years ago Bidderford Maine next to Saco used to have an anual DUMP PARADE and they built floats and everything out of stuff from the dump.I guess they stopped it in like the late 80*s.I used to go up there to work at another plant in Wells and guys from Ma.that had moved up there already were telling me about it.Used to have a nice spring run of stripers at the mouth of the Mosum river off Carson beach around the second week of May.Last couple of hours of falling tide seemed best.Could wade right out onto outer bar.

That's a shame. Dump picking is almost an American tradition. One man's garbage is another man's gold. I remember in the late 70's early 80's working summers for AH Crowell in West Dennis, I couldn't wait to get to the dump to see what treasures awaited; bikes, a bug zapper, lawn mowers, Playboys, lawn chairs, a stuffed camal for the truck, etc., you name it we picked it. Even if I had no use for it I felt compelled to take it, of course I caught crap from Mom for bringing it home, but what the heck. Now my kids make fun of me if I slam on the brakes by a pile of stuff someone is throwing out on "junk day". But I guess that's why it's called garbage picking, huh? Same idea. I live for picking.
I remember the guys who ran the dump used to have a garden where the honey wagons had dumped the previous year. Mostly tomatoes and squash...very healthy tomatoes and squash.

Dump Parade! Truro has an annual dump dance!! No alcohol any more though since some giddy goof nearly ran down a Statie directing traffic.

Well it's nice to hear that there are more dump pickers out there. I thought it was just my family tradition.
When I was a kid, my GrandFather used to take me to go to the dump. I was a scrawny little #^&#^&#^&#^& and could crawl through everywhere he pointed. We would hook up the trailer to his Delta 88, put a SINGLE bag of trash in it and cruise on down to the landfill.
About 4 hrs later we would come riding home with the trailer full, trunk tied down and things hanging out the windows, not to mention I'd have to get in and he'd pile the stuff on my lap. "Here kid, hold onto this rope, or the #^&#^&#^&#^&'s gonna fall off the roof".
He was as crazy as they come. God I miss that guy.
