Just got the Petzl Tikka Plus last night. You can get a lens kit for it, green, red and clear. I have the Aurora also but as far as I know they don't have different lenses for it so I bought the Petzl. Now the Aurora will be my backup.

I don't think there are any lenses for the Aurora. There is for the Tec 40, I have to order some tomorrow. They should be in shortly.

i have never been a fan of the super bright lights in the surf. i am a firm beleiver in the idea that the light spooks bass. i have been using this headlamo for a while. it is the princeton tec quest. it uses a normal bulb, runs on 2 AA's, and runs for a loooooong time on one set of batteries.

Hey Toby - You have to chech out the Aurora and the Tikka Plus. Both have 3 different light intensities and with the Tikka, you can put in a red lens to make it even dimmer plus you don't lose your night vision. Both also have a strobe light feature.

You won’t get an argument from me relating to whether or not light spooks bass. It sure as heck does.
When deciding which light is right for the fishing you do, the answer is often, ‘more than one.’
I use 2: a headlamp for walking in, and small dive light with a narrow beam for bony wading.
If you are fishing a sand beach with a sand bottom you can get by with a small neck light or headlight with a red lens. If you are wading a rocky area where you have to step between large rocks, a dive light with a narrowly focused, water-penetrating beam is what you want. If you fish a spot where you have to walk in and path is obscure, or laden with poison ivy, a bright white headlight with a wide beam is a good thing to have. My opinion is that we should try to get by with as little as possible, but that we should err on the side of caution. I’m a pussy, conservative-type person. When I drive, my first priority is not to crash. When I fish, my first priority is to not get hurt.
Some guys can wade bony spots without a light – I however, would not guide without using a good light. I have known guys from Jersey – good fishermen - who did not believe in the use of lights, at all…several ended up taking some nasty spills (not with me though).
If you can’t see the snails on the rock and you step on them (even with Korkers) you go down. I’ve known guys who have fallen down fifteen-foot crevices at places like the Avenues in Narragansett because they did not use a light.

i usually carry two or three lights on me at all times. two years ago, while fishing the spring CT river run, i was landing a fish. the spot i was fishing was about 40' from shore, in a strong current, the bottom is all softball to football size rocks. well, when i was pulling the bass up-current to me, i switched my headlight on. the bass surfaced just below me, splashed, and the plug was propelled at my head. i ducked and hit the light off my head. i had the pleasure of watching my headlamp float downstream and out of sight. i had no back up light that night, and was forced to finish the night in darkness. i have made a point since then to take spairs with me.

I carry two myself, one goes around my head the other goes around my neck. As for falls--I usually take a handful. And the falls I take are in the spots that i fish the most, get careless and move too fast from rock to rock. The spots that I don't fish that much I am much more careful in. We get sloppy when we think we know too much.

I've got the Aurora and its a great little light. I usually wear it around my neck rather than the head while fishing, unless I'm walking on rocks. And the light is hinged so I can point it down to my feet so all I'll light up on the low setting is the area right in front of me.

I've been thinking about trying some of that clear plastic red tape for tail lights over the lense for night vision

I just ordered the Eclipse II - a little LED light with a red bulb. It should be perfect as a knot tying light.
It is waterproof.
I ordered a bunch of Tec 40 with the red lenses too. Actually, I ordered a lot of lights...

I have the "Rage" light for a couple of years now. Will the red lens fit over this light? It looks like a similar shape. Thanks!
