OK, So I got a load of bass books for Xmas I am working my way thru them...Now I am reading "Night Tides", The striper fishing legend of Billy the Greek, by Cinquemani

About a LI bass sharpie. I grew up on LI and I am about the same age as this guy and I have heard of him but never heard to the degree this guys success. I have just started this book (reluctanty because this kind of hero worship is not my cup of tea...but I have to say my interest is peaked) and I KNOW many of you will want to read it already (I am just on chapter 1)

1) He is a rec fisherman.
2) He has caught at least 2500 sb > 20 # EACH SEASON since 1970
3) His best year was 1998...6500 bass, one 58#, and 57 fish > 40# (IN ONE SEASON!)

He has landed 4 fish > 60 the biggest 64

This is actually a pretty good read...esp. For all you obsessed with the guys who consistently catch big bass.
He has had some amazing nights...like 4 50's in one night, shots at real record fish only to come up with the smaller one in the pod...in the low 60's...mostly sight fishing from bridges but fishes all methods surf (plugs and bait), bridge and boat. He has caught fish greater then 50# for the last 30 years every year (has more then 100 50's). He fishes a small area on LI that is not known as a hot spot like Montauk or Orient but he knows his back yard, that is for sure. A little cocky (bassaholics tend to be), written by his friend who is trying to figure him out. His overall numbers are mind-boggling...averging something like 12 fish per day for 250 days per year, puts in 1800 hours/year fishing at least, year in and year out. Not a how to book, more about the man but it has a section from one of his seminars that covers some good tips and sound advice filters thru now and again. It was interesting for me cause I was very familiar with the area he fished as a boy but this fellow is a controversial character and this book will not be for everyone.

I read the book last spring. Pretty impressive fisherman. I think the definition of fanatic has his picture on it. I think I fish a lot. He makes me look like a first timer. He fishes every night of the season. Also stand's on a bridge in the middle of November in the middle of the night freezing his you know what off, but says he got 4 fish over fifty one night, 2 58 lbs. He said he also saw stripers weighing 90 plus pounds on ice going to market at Foulton in Manhattan. Good read.

Billy "The Greek" is the epitome of a hardcore fisherman. Met him a few times and you can hear it in his voice and exploits. One of the newer members here (Mike Lang) is a friend of "The Greek." Maybe he can add some info to this. Pretty sure he fished an area between Fire Island Inlet and Jones Inlet. A big area inside and out with alot of bridges and alot to learn.

I am very fortunate to have Bill as a mentor, but more importantly I am lucky to have him as a freind. Great person with incredible ambition, respect and knowledge of stripers. He has drive most could not imagine. I fish hard, but sometimes can only walk away shaking my head as he can do both tides a day week after week. He works his butt off pulling 10+hour days at work in the off months running his own business, just so he can hit it hard when its TIME.
The greatest thing about all of the numbers, is that he actually has many, many, MANY videos catching bass after bass. They are for select eyes only for obvious background reasons, but one clip sticks in my mind. Picture this, he is chunking bunker with a bud and they show the watch every time they land a bass. the bottom line was something like 25-30fish from 25-42 lbs in something like 2 1/2 hours, they went back that night and almost doubled there morning tally.
Mike the Author is a great person too, and I think he did a great job, especially as this was his first book.
