Tail weighted plugs and grommet Q's

Oh plug gurus...

I made up a mess of needles, and weighted them in a manner that seemed appropriate. The tail grommets I've been using are the nickle ones like NJT and Salty sell, they have a small lip and are fairly large in diameter. I guess they are more sized for the nose...

What I don't want to do is drill out a substantial amount of lead in the tail weight to make the grommet fit.

So should I plan for this and use a larger tail weight with the assumption I'm going to lose a tad?

The batch I have already made are about 2 ounces. Should I just skip the tail grommet on these to keep the weight right, or would that cause serious paint job issues later?

Thanks - spence
