I got a fright today

I had my very first emergency call from camp for my 3 year old today . It seems she hit her head on the swing set at camp and cut her head not bad just a small cut . they called my cell phone to notify me . I had to dart across campus 5 blocks to my truck and travel the 20 miles or so to the camp . I get there 3 emergency trucks and an ambulance . Im freaking inside ,rush in and my lil bud is not freaking out so I can relax a little . they say she didnt black out and it only bled a little . I brought her home and then to the health building at work , she'll be fine . what a trooper im proud of her she handled her self like a big girl . its a good thing my phone was on as we are having problems with the wifes beeper and they couldnt get ahold of her . she getas home and is wondering why im home I tell her and she freaks well I guess someone had too glad my girl is OK . I had to type this as I have no one in the office to tell . thanks for listening .

Like you said, the good news is that she's OK. I have not been through anything like that since the day my son was born and that was scary enough...

Chris, I know how it feels when you get that call. Thank god, THANK GOD, everything was OK. But your run across campus, that ride to the camp, the nervous feeling in your stomach when you saw the ambulance...sounds so much like an episode in my recent past.

I remember getting the call at work from our nanny who said it appeared our little guy had trouble breathing. We had known months before that we were in for a rocky road - flying around the country for tests, seeing specialist after specialist - but I didn't expect it so soon.

I ran out of the office and raced home doing about 80 with my flashers on. I remember flashing my high beams for people to pull over. In fact one guy flipped me off and said f-you. I just wanted to get around him at the stop sign. Man I wish I ran into that guy today. I'd give him a little lecture about life.

When I got home the ambulance, police, and EMTs were there and I was able to make it in time for the ride to the emergency room. On the way to the emergency room I explained all that had happened in the past few months to the EMTs. Mito what? They hadn't even heard of what Ryan had.

On the way to the hospital I held him, I caressed him, I spoke to him softly, I kissed him on the forehead....and a few days later, his mom and I released him from our arms...but kept him in our hearts forever, and that is why I write this now.

I'm sorry all...but your right ChrisL, sometimes you need to tell someone.

I am glad she's safe now Chris. That cut will heal up fast, kids heal quickly.

Gary, that is one sad story. I'm very sorry for your loss. We can all be reminded that life can be short so take advantage and enjoy each day. I thought the piece you wrote for tim's site was very good , I think you wrote it. best wishes to you and your family and I pray I never have to deal with anything like that.

Gary, I think of Ryan a lot, especialy when it's a beautiful night and I'm out in the surf and say a prayer for him from time to time. Especialy when it's a beautiful night in the surf. When I look up in the sky I think of him and pray he is doing well up there. For someone that has never met you or your family, I remember those days very vividly. All of us that remember that time in your lives were touched, moved, and will never forget...

Glad to read everything is OK Chris. Kids are hard to figure. In some ways they are as fragile as a flower and in some ways they are as tough as nails.

Gary , good to hear from you. I doubt that anybody who was on the boards at that time will forget "Ryan's Rock". It touched everybody.

Thankfully, she's ok. I can only relate to how you must have felt. It's every parent's worse nightmare.

Glad things turned out ok and I'm touched by Gary's story. Every parent on this board can relate. Seemed for a few years in a row, I had at least 3 trips to the ER with my middle son. I've had a lot of stitches over the years, but I think he has me beat now .

Chris,

I'm glad everything is ok. I know I will be experiencing these types of things sooner than later. So far it's only been a fever and a rash. Gary, I can't even begin to imagine what you have been through. I had read "Ryan's Rock" a while back and I just went and read it again. Chills went up my neck. I'm sorry and will definately keep him in my T & P also.
