MASS Leg of Striped-Bass Tourney--Details needed

OK , this is happening fast.On Sept 15 , in two weeks we meet at Mike T's (M+D's bait and tackle) on Main St in Wareham for barbecue and gathering before heading out fishing.

I think we should gather at Mike's at 3PM. I want to be fishing by 6 or so and it seems to take some time to cook , BS , eat and get going. Its also getting dark earlier now than it was in June when we did the first MA leg.

The four leg is wide open . A good fish this weekend could get you a rod and reel combo! Definitely worth a shot especially since there is no entry fee.

Smokey and I made sure we made enough skin jigs to fill our orders and have 10 left over to split between us. We plan on fishing hard both Friday and Saturday. this has got to be the best chance at a fishing tourney prize in the area right now. There's a rod and reel combo up for grabs as well as the Canal Heavy Jigging stick. Time to get psyched.

So what's the grill situation , Slipknot? Steve is bringing shrimp , Smokey and I have the Shortcake covered. Who else is coming and bringing what?

Everybody cool with getting going by 3 PM?

We got to get going here. We're all discussing the RI leg in October cause of the special guest appearance by Patrick but this MASS leg is only two weeks away and its prime time for that area.

I believe I have to work that Saturday. If I do I won't be down there till around 6pm. I would like to hook up with some one who is fishing the canal. I can meet them on the canal somewhere. If I don't have to work I will be there for the BBQ and will bring Italian Sausages. I would like to pal with some one who could show me the proper technique for using the Smiling Bills in the canal. Any takers??

Sorry Saltheart - I guess I've been asleep at the wheel... I can bring a grille if MikeCC doesn't have one at the shop... I'm bringing the Nathan's Dogs + Burgers, buns, & condiments... Saltheart has that suicide Strawberry ...

What else do we have?

Also, what style are people going to want to fish? There is the ditch, sand beaches, rock hoppers, chunk slinging (in the various locales...)

Specialist - that shouldn't be a problem as you can hook up most any time with someone...

I'm bringing 2 rods for this. One for jigging the Ditch , one for everything else. One's a 9 foot loomis 108-30 for the heavy Ditch work , the other is a Loomis 1266/2 for everything from Bombers to needlefish to eels to 3.5 OZ Hawg Hunter pencil poppers.

If I show up at M&D's at 3:00pm, would I be considered an interloper because I'm not in this tournament?

I'm willing to weasel my way in with a couple of pies from Grandma's . Their banana cream pies are killer.

JPowers - no problem. You can show up (be nice to put a face with a name from the WMI days). You qualify for fishing it and there is no fee - so it's up to you but you are certainly welcome at the bar-b-q ...

You're in JPowers . All it takes to be in is at least ten posts. If you want to enter a fish it has to be witnessed by another board member since this is a catch and release tourney only. You can keep a fish but you can't enter any fish you keep.

Sorry Guys, I can't be there Sat. since I have to be at the out-laws for dinner at 4:00

If you need a grille, maybe I can drop one off beforehand. That's the best I can do.

Cool

No problem Slip, I'll bring a grille. Just be sure that when your fishing Friday night (like you're going to go TWO nights in a row watching the Disney Channel ) you're near some othe sb'ers to chalk up your ditch 40....

Will do John, and if I get early release after the kids are home and in bed I will come out to play. I'm sure I can find someone at the ditch from this site Sat. night to witness my Ditch 40.

Question

I had an e-mail with a couple questions for the upcoming MEETS and I figured that I'd put them up...

What is it all about? I want to offer a little side tournament for our members. As we already have meets where we get together at different times of the year, this just adds the chance for some cool prizes for those that participate...

Is it a competition? Not really. Not in the typical sense of tournaments. We've had some nice donations from our sponsors for this and wanted to add a little sizzle. The objective is to practice C&R and have a good time...

Does it cost anything? Nope, just be a member of the message boards in good standing (2 weeks before a leg and 10 posts as a member)...

Are there any "group" accomodations? Nothing official - The "Official" night of these meets is Satruday night. Friday night is a scout night that counts towards the "Leg" provided you fish with another board member...

Does everyone fish together? We're trying to match similar styles and experience and equipment... Also, some of the more productive spots cannot support large groups of people decending on them...

Do I need a boat? Pure shorebound

Also - gear recommendations:

I would recommend hip boots & splash pants or waders...
A good surf rod/reel configured to how you will fish (ie plugs/eels/chunks/ or fly if you'd like - although there is no seperate "fly" division)...
Korkers if you have them - for those that don't, there are plenty of clearer, korkerless places to fish...
Typical night gear such as neck light, light plug bags/gear bags (no need to lug 50 pounds walking on sand)...

Any other questions?

Hey does this mean we can't follow the WHITE VAN? I'll be there with my special venison burger mix. Hope none of the PETA people show up. Probably start at the Ditch then maybe head back towards home (So. Weymouth) and fishing around Hull to Scituite area. Schoolie Monster you interested in fishing together, we can trade local secret spots. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

here goes my cherry!!

Being the first time to meet up with all you folks, which i am really looking forward to. i have convinced the wife to make up a batch of her world famous potato salad for the occasion.
Seeing how i havn't met any of you folks yet i am hoping to hook up with someone either to fish with or tag along with for the night. Worse case i can always bring my daughter polaroid if it would be acceptable. see you all

Redcrbbr - you mentioned Westport in another thread - I might be intersted in that. Did you find out about the gates closing time, if any?

CanalRat - I might be interseted in the South Shore if the Westport thing doesn't happen.

But, that's why we all meet at the Bar-B-Que, we can work it all out then. See ya....
