Surf Fishing
Been fishing the surf up on the North Shore (Manchester, Rockport, Beverly, MA) the last week or so...a few 30 inch fish but nothing bigger. Using eels and chunk. Have done better the last 3 or 4 years. Anybody doing anything up this way?

It has been slow on PI for plugging. The bait guys have been doing okfrom what I hear. I know of at least one decent fish last night on bait (worms).

A week ago we had a couple dozen hitting 6" Storm shad in Broad Sound...
Fishing off of the causeway to Nahant...
Simply casting into the wind off the wall and hooking up every tenth cast.
The following night...only one. Seems pretty hit or miss.
One 26 and one 27 incher...rest between 14 and 20. But numbers make for a fun night.

...just fished that spot this morning...bass all over the place...from 20" - 30"...mostly hitting my fly teaser...it was a little difficult to get the larger fish up on the wall given that it was an out-going tide and i was using light tackle...noentheless, a fun morning and good way to start before heading to work...thanks for the tip...

Glad to hear it...
Any calls from cars?
When we're there at night, some bored girls like to shout when they cruise by.
I prefer to fish out in the middle of nowhere...but when fishing's good, a concrete wall near the city works.
I'm hoping to be back out there either tonight or tomorrow night.
What are you using for a teaser, and how is it rigged...trailing? or a dropper? Direct to line above?

...no cat calls from cars...maybe i dont have the looks you have!
i was using a purple bomber with a white deciever fly out in front...basically 2 lines from swivel...one to the teaser about 8" long and another to the plug about 2' long...i usually find bass hiting the teaser alot more than the plug no matter what plug i use...
yeah, i prefer to be more amongst nature but i needed to get thsi skunk off my back so it was nice to have the old rod bending again!
thanks again

Hey Doc
You have discovered the secret of not going home skunked....the teaser. The Striper is an opportunistic predator. It will always go after something that is being chased so the teaser always looks like a smaller baitfish being chased by a larger one. Old Dave Hammock at Murats use to tell me that it made no sense not to fish a teaser. "Why wouldn't you want to have 2 lures in the water at the same time."
I get almost all my fish on the teaser. One night recently RIROCKHOUND and I got over 100 fish and the majority of them were on the teaser. The 25.2 LBer I posted last week was on a teaser in a full gale with nothing but white water for 100 yards. I am not sure how the bass see that little fly in all the suds....but they do.
I tie a drooper loop into my leader so it doesn't tangle.

i agree...the teaser was suggested to me a few years ago and i have used it ever since with nothing but great results....nothing like catching a monster bass on a small hook...
what is a dropper loop...? sometimes i use a triple swivel or i use two knots on a barrel swivel...i have found not too many tangles with either of them...

I use the 2 leader off the barrel swivel...
The dropper loop is a loop tied off the main leader ahead of the plug...

Doc:
I am not a good wordsmith. I'd have to show you but I will try... .You slide the fly on the line and make a loop Then you tie what amounts to s surgeon knot Wrap 1 way 3 times with one end then the other way with the other end 3 or 4 times. Then you tuck the ends thru one of the turns in the loop. Aw hell, this doesn't even make sense to me. Let me see if I can find a picture of tying it and I 'll post it.

Doc:
This is kinda the way it's tied
The Dropper Loop knot or also known as the Blood Dropper Knot is tied in the bight (not the end) of the line, creating a loop that juts out perpendicular to the line were a hook can be attached. It's useful for creating a fishing line with a series of hook along its length.
The Dropper Loop Knot can be tied readily and attached to swivel and hook. No matter how many types of knots you use, all knots must be tied with care. As a general practice make sure that all knots should be trimmed so that there is no more than a millimeter or two of line sticking out from the fishing knot.
Dropper Loop is made by first forming a loop in the line. Next take hold of one side of the loop and make 6 or more turns around the line itself. Keep open the point where the turns or twists are being made and hold of the other side of the loop, and pull it through the center opening, use a finger in this loop so that it is not lost. By holding this loop between your teeth pull gently on both ends of the line, making the turns gather and pack down on either side of the loop.

THAT's IT!!!!
The answer to the second question is that there are fish in RI but it hide and seek. Last night Midnight to 2 was a ZERO. we have been getting our share of high teens to mid 20's but it's not a blitz. One decent fish a night has been the rule with a lot of 25 to 27" fish mixed in.

Interesting observation...Saturday we had a lot of 25-27" fish with one 25# thrown in.
Last night zipppo. Wonder if the change in wind killed it.
